PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Hugh Rection (ranked 1279 p4p, 162 weight class) and John Dio (ranked 1600 p4p, 200 weight class). Rection's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, The Clash - Bankrobber. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Hugh Rection!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Dio!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Jeff Smith and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rection misses with a hook.
Rection scores with a nice right hand.
Rection misses with a double jab.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Dio has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

Dio closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Dio is trying to trip Rection. He has hold of a leg but Rection is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Dio persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Rection manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.

Rection escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Dio moves in looking to clinch but Rection pushes him off.
Dio scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Hugh Rection seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Dio fails in his attempt to clinch.
Rection tries to close the distance and clinch up but Dio swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Rection swats away the attempt to clinch by Dio.
Dio moves into range and connects with a jab.
Rection scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Dio doesn't seem bothered though.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Dio forces Rection back against the cage and clinches.

Dio escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
A swing and a miss from Rection.
As Rection backs off Dio throws a huge counter combo but Rection manages to avoid it all.

Dio moves into the clinch.

Dio manages to break the clinch.
Rection uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.

Rection tries to keep at a distance but Dio has taken the fight into the clinch.
Rection wants to get back to striking at distance but Dio won't allow it.

Rection escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Dio shoots in looking for a takedown. Rection tries to sprawl out of it but Dio keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Rection manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Dio jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Dio ducks under a wild hook from Rection.
Dio tries to close the distance and clinch but Rection swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Dio wants to clinch.

Dio has closed the distance and engaged Rection in a clinch.
Rection gets underhooks to prevent Dio's takedown attempt.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Dio breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Dio walks into a jab.
Rection swings and misses with a shot to the body
and Dio counters with a straight right hand.

Dio has closed the distance and engaged Rection in a clinch.

Rection's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Dio moves in looking to clinch but Rection pushes him off.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Rection uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Dio.
Rection throws a looping overhand right but Dio ducks down to avoid it.

Rection drops Dio with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Dio looks back up at him and smiles so Rection waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.


Dio is rocked!


It looks like John Dio has been cut.
Rection waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Dio.
Dio is still on wobbly legs! Can Rection finish him?
Dio tries to clinch up.
Rection changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
A jab from Rection misses.
Rection misses with an uppercut
and Dio counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Dio fails to land with a series of punches.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Rection fakes the body blow, causing Dio to drop his hands! Left hook to the temple! Dio goes stiff, and falls face first into the mat. Goodnight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:33 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Hugh Rection!
Hugh Rection tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
