Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Aaron Cooke (ranked 24623 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cody Weaver (ranked 5304 p4p, 0 weight class). Aaron Cooke has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Aaron Cooke!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Cody Weaver!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Francis DeMontford and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cooke displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Weaver.

Weaver forces Cooke back against the cage and clinches.
Cooke misses with a knee to the head.
Weaver goes for a takedown attempt but Cooke pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Weaver tries to work over Cooke's front leg with a kick but Cooke checks it.
Cooke really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Weaver connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.

Weaver gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Cooke jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Weaver walks away with a smile on his face. Cooke gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Weaver stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Weaver wants it to stay on the feet.
Weaver drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Cooke defends it well.

Weaver closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Cooke tries to pull guard but Weaver holds him up against the cage and eventually Cooke drops back down to his feet.

Weaver is working for takedown but Cooke is calmly controlling the position for now.

Cooke jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Weaver walks away with a smile on his face. Cooke gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Weaver lands with a good body shot.
Cooke moves in looking to clinch but Weaver pushes him off.
Weaver shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Cooke sprawls well. Cooke wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Weaver gets slowly back to his feet.

Weaver wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Cooke has him pressed against the cage.
Cooke jumps guard but Weaver stands there with Cooke around his waist. Cooke gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Cooke gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Weaver.

Weaver pulls guard.
Cooke won't allow Weaver to sweep him here.

Weaver had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Cooke defends it easily.
Weaver manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Cooke manages to get himself to full guard.

Weaver is stalling in the full guard.

Cooke will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Cooke throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Cooke will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Weaver is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Weaver throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Cooke works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Weaver gets to his feet - Cooke follows without any prompting.
Weaver shoots in but Cooke avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Cooke tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Weaver manages to circle out of the way.
Weaver lands a really nice looking cross but Cooke seems unphased.
Weaver shoots for a double leg takedown but Cooke sprawls well. He's pushed Weaver's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Weaver stuns Cooke with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Weaver shoots in for a double leg but Cooke sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Weaver defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Cooke.

Cooke tries to close the distance and clinch but Weaver swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Let's hope that Weaver has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Weaver tries to land a front kick but Cooke steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Cooke went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Cody Weaver seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Weaver misses with a takedown attempt - Cooke sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Weaver misses with a kick to the body.
Cody Weaver is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Weaver avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Weaver wants to counter with a clinch but Cooke pushes him away.

Cooke closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Weaver quickly recovers to half guard.
Cooke knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Weaver on the ground.

That was a close second round but I would say that Aaron Cooke will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Nice takedown defense from Cooke. No joy for Weaver on that attempt.
Weaver throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Cooke's waist but Cooke gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Weaver off to one side.
Weaver closes this distance looking for a takedown but Cooke circles away.

Weaver tries to pull guard but Cooke holds him up against the cage and eventually Weaver drops back down to his feet.
Weaver takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Cooke fails to pull guard.
Cooke swings wildly with an uppercut but Weaver uses good head movement to avoid it.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Weaver sitting in guard here, content to control.
Cooke wants to stand but Weaver is controlling the position.
Cooke looking to control but Weaver passes into half guard.

Cooke works his way to full guard. Good work.
Weaver trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Weaver sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Weaver pushes down on Cooke's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Weaver is taking a breather. Cooke says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Weaver not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Weaver seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Weaver.
Weaver lands a right hook to the body.
Weaver shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Cooke as he avoids it easily.

Cooke shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Weaver manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Weaver scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Weaver pushes Cooke up against the cage in a clinch.
Weaver tries to score a body lock takedown but Cooke shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

And that's the end of the fight!
Cody Weaver comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Weaver has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
