Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Cameron Murray (ranked 4151 p4p, 0 weight class) and XY Mondragon (ranked 8319 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Cameron Murray!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, XY Mondragon!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Colin Fray and Ryoma Takatsuka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mondragon throws a jab but it's blocked by Murray.
Murray tries to clinch but Mondragon is having none of it.
Mondragon misses with a series of wild punches.
Murray is looking to land body kicks.
Mondragon let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.
Murray doesn't manage to clinch there - Mondragon circles away.
Murray uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Mondragon.
Murray moves out of range of the strikes.
Mondragon throws a body shot but no joy.
XY Mondragon seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Murray closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Murray lands in his opponent's guard.
Murray scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Murray missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Mondragon working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Murray.
Murray has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Mondragon seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Murray loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Mondragon has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Murray has passed into side control.

Murray stands up.
Mondragon walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Murray checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Murray avoids the head kick by Mondragon.
Mondragon takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?

Murray closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Mondragon quickly recovers to half guard.
Mondragon has hold of Murray's hands but Murray slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Murray not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Mondragon on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

Murray is trying to control the action in half guard but Mondragon is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Mondragon really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Murray. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Mondragon has hold of Murray's hands but Murray slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Murray tries to stand and escape but Mondragon is controlling the position.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Mondragon can do anything to dispel that myth.

Murray works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

Murray wants to lay and pray for a moment but Mondragon keeps working.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
A big shot lands for Murray! That's hurt Mondragon! Will he recover? Murray fires away with more strikes and the referee has to step in to stop the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:49 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Cameron Murray!
