PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Bradford Waller (ranked 7761 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alex Knee (ranked 4555 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Bradford Waller!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Alex Knee!
The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Fedor Mirinova.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Waller has taken the fight to the clinch.

Knee drags the fight down to the ground.
Knee utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Waller loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Knee avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Waller in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Knee has Waller pulled in close to control his posture.
Waller throws a big elbow that misses.
Knee wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Waller manages to pass to side control.
Knee wants to improve his position but Waller is controlling well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Knee trying to control but Waller postures up.

Knee looks like he's trying to stand up.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Waller connects with a nice short shot to Knee's temple.
Waller missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

Knee is staying active underneath Waller, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Waller thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Knee's head.
Waller performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Knee keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Waller with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
A head kick from Knee lands but Waller takes it in his stride.

Waller has Knee up against the cage in a clinch.
Waller tries to score a body lock takedown but Knee shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Knee has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Waller is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Knee prevents Waller from breaking the clinch.
Waller has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Knee after a bit of a struggle.
Waller is trying to pull guard but Knee turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bradford Waller. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Knee slows down the pace here.
Waller drops down looking for an ankle pick but Knee pulls his leg out and moves away.
Knee closes the distance and clinches up with Waller, looking for a takedown. Knee pushes Waller against the cage but Waller circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Knee manages to break the clinch.

Waller closes the distance and clinches.
Knee prevents a takedown attempt there.
Waller tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Waller really is a fat lump.

Knee takes the fight into the clinch.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Knee takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Waller wants to take the fight to the mat but Knee manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Waller tries for a takedown but Knee manages to get underhooks.
Waller drops down looking for an ankle pick but Knee pulls his leg out and moves away.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Knee.
Waller tries to counter by clinching up but Knee breaks away and moves out of range.

Knee drives through and clinches with Waller against the cage.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Knee pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Knee misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Waller tries to close the distance and clinch up but Knee swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Waller with a poor takedown
and Knee counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Waller wants to clinch up but Knee keeps it at a distance.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alex Knee dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Waller rushes Knee and presses him up against the cage.

Knee breaks from the clinch.
Knee lands a body shot.
Waller fails with an attempt to clinch.
Waller tries to clinch up.
Knee lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
Waller really is built like a bowling ball. I wonder if he'd roll if you pushed him down a hill...

Knee has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Waller is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Waller goes for a takedown in the clinch but Knee prevents it.

Knee tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Waller smiles and moves away.

Waller closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Knee escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Waller has taken the fight to the clinch.
Waller on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Knee is trying to stall.
Knee is breathing heavily.
Knee wants a takedown.
Bradford Waller has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alex Knee.
Waller goes for a takedown attempt but Knee pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Knee misses with a takedown attempt - Waller sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Waller thinks about countering with a body kick.
Knee scores with a head kick. Waller tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.

Knee avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Waller tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Waller wants to clinch.

and Knee counters with a flying knee. Nice.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Knee is defended easily by Waller.

Waller pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Knee closes the distance and pushes Waller back into the cage.
Knee keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Waller's efforts to push away.
Waller jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Knee walks away with a smile on his face. Waller gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Knee has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Waller tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Waller is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Waller has taken the fight to the clinch.

Knee breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Knee keeps the fight on the outside.
Waller tries to clinch but Knee is having none of it.

Knee pushes Waller up against the cage in a clinch.
Knee is pressed up against the cage. Waller has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Knee down to the mat. Knee avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Knee has managed to clinch.

Waller jumps into guard, dragging Knee to the mat.
Knee sitting in guard here, content to control.
Knee wants to pass the guard but Waller is keeping the position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Knee is looking to advance position but Waller has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Alex Knee will probably get the nod - 10:9.

Knee fails with the takedown
and Waller counters with a two punch combo.
Knee shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Waller defends it nicely.
Knee tries for a takedown but Waller sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Bradford Waller has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alex Knee.
Waller fails with an attempt to clinch.
Waller tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Knee paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Knee forces Waller back against the cage and clinches.
Waller is trying to drag Knee to the mat but Knee just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Knee takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Waller throws an elbow but it's blocked.

Waller has Knee pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Knee manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Waller is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Knee gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Waller is working for takedown but Knee is calmly controlling the position for now.

Knee jumps into guard, dragging Waller to the mat.
Waller distracts Knee with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Waller with a nice head shot there.
Knee is trying to keep Waller in close.
Waller wants to control from the top but Knee keeps moving.

Waller avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Waller throws a strike but Knee rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Knee trying to control but Waller is working from the bottom.

Waller is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Knee is aware though and is defending well.
Waller throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Waller trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.

Knee loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Waller looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Knee has picked Waller up and slammed him! Waller can't keep hold of the triangle and Knee manages to pass to side control!
Knee slips into full mount, dodging the strikes by Waller.
Waller is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Waller might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Knee misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Knee controlling the position easily from mount.
Waller sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Waller slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Knee sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Waller's guard.
Knee trying to control the pace.
Waller tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Bradford Waller has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Alex Knee is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Knee takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

And that's the end of the fight!
Alex Knee comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Knee has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
