PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Asal Bashar (ranked 2585 p4p, 294 weight class) and Konstantinos Nevrakis (ranked 1349 p4p, 166 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Nevrakis's choice of entrance music: Winds of Ithaca. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Asal Bashar!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Konstantinos Nevrakis!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Dillan Fox and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bashar looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Nevrakis moves into the clinch.

Bashar is trying to trip Nevrakis. He has hold of a leg but Nevrakis is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Bashar persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Bashar avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Nevrakis is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Bashar is aware though and is defending well.

Nevrakis working for submissions but it's allowed Bashar to get to half guard.
Bashar is trying to control. Nevrakis wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Nevrakis has a hand on Bashar's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Bashar takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!
Nevrakis keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Bashar wants to control the pace but Nevrakis is squirming around nicely.

Nevrakis rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
Nevrakis is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Bashar stalling away here and it's allowed Nevrakis to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Bashar missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Bashar is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Nevrakis looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Bashar stays in close to Nevrakis's body and controls the position.

Bashar is fighting to break Nevrakis's control of his arms but Nevrakis is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Bashar pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Nevrakis is keeping the position for now.

Nevrakis is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Bashar engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Nevrakis looking for a guillotine here but Bashar defends easily.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Bashar looking to sit in guard and control but Nevrakis gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Asal Bashar will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Nevrakis is trying to pull guard but Bashar has him pressed against the cage.
A frustrated look appears on Bashar's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Nevrakis fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Asal Bashar has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Konstantinos Nevrakis.
Bashar has had enough of the clinch but Nevrakis keeps him there for the moment.
Bashar struggles to land a body shot inside as Nevrakis controls his hands.
Bashar doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Nevrakis tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Bashar smiles and moves away.

Nevrakis has managed to clinch.

Nevrakis looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Bashar is defending well. Nevrakis quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Bashar has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Nevrakis celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Konstantinos Nevrakis! Konstantinos Nevrakis retains his lightweight title!
A relieved looking Konstantinos Nevrakis thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
