Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Silvio Briatore! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 1, fighting out of New York, Damian Maia! The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Reed Andrews and Franklyn Lucas.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Maia shoots in but Briatore avoids the takedown attempt easily. Briatore scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Briatore controls the position. Maia is trying to get back to half guard. Maia seems a little lost for a moment, as Briatore dominates the positioning. Maia manages to get one leg in to regain half guard. Maia is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Briatore pulls his head out easily. Briatore is taking a breather. Maia says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Maia is trying to get back to full guard. Maia has a hand on Briatore's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Briatore takes advantage of the position though and mounts him! Maia regains half guard. Maia tries to roll over but Briatore keeps him under control.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Maia is looking to get back to full guard here but Briatore has managed to pass to side control instead. That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Briatore connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Maia tries to get back to half guard but can't. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Maia is bucking up trying to escape but Briatore cracks him with another couple of good strikes. Briatore putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound! Briatore looking to finish Maia with some ground and pound. This is bad for Maia! Briatore sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. The referee stands the fighters back up. Silvio Briatore just wasn't active enough from the dominant position. Maia misses with a takedown and Briatore counters with a takedown into side control. Briatore tries to move to mount but Maia blocks the move with his legs. Maia tries to improve position but can't. Briatore in side control lands a decent elbow. Maia is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Briatore off and has taken his back! Maia working for a choke but Briatore is defending well. Briatore needs to remain patient if he's going to get out of this sticky situation. That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Maia on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound. Briatore looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Maia with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Maia tries to get to full guard but Briatore has control of the leg. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Briatore in particular looking to stall. Maia wants to get back to full guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Briatore takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Briatore's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. Briatore seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. Maia is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Briatore scores with a couple of nice shots. Briatore works his way into full mount! Maia is looking to get to half guard. Briatore scoring with strikes but Maia is staying in there. Briatore lands a heavy elbow. Well, if Briatore is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Maia tries to roll over but Briatore keeps him under control. Briatore is trying to control the action in half guard but Maia is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Maia looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Maia is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Briatore's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Briatore's back!
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Maia has his opponent's back and is working for the choke. Briatore trying to control the action but Maia just sinks the hooks in. Maia looking for the choke but no joy. Maia working for a choke but Briatore is defending well. Briatore tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell! Briatore might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Briatore can't escape the position.

Maia looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead. Maia is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Briatore can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Maia swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Briatore is now in Maia's guard. A big mistake from Maia there, giving up the dominant position! Briatore controls from within his opponent's guard. Briatore passes Maia's left leg - he's now in half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Maia is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Briatore moves nicely into side control. Briatore in side control lands a decent elbow. Damian Maia has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Briatore scoring with punches from side control. Maia takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Briatore taking a breather here. Maia manages to work his way to half guard, despite Briatore's best efforts.
And that's the end of the fight! Silvio Briatore showed his dominance in that final round. Well Briatore has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
