Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Yoel Mir (ranked 223 p4p, 27 weight class) and Don Stewart (ranked 751 p4p, 95 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
18 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Yoel Mir! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
23 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Don Stewart! The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Steve Smith and Alec Ball.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A swing and a miss from Stewart. Donk. Mir catches Stewart right on the button with a cross. Wow, both these guys are really going for it! Mir swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Stewart. Mir has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. Mir throws a body kick that digs right into the meat. Stewart scores with a sloppy right hand. Mir should have avoided that one. Mir shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it. Stewart throws a right hand that Mir ducks under and follows up with a left that Mir also avoids with ease. Mir steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Stewart. Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Stewart, as that shot connected.

Mir leaves Stewart with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Mir half committed to a counter leg kick. This has been an exciting period of action! Mir misses with a hook. Stewart ducked under it nicely. Stewart works Mir's body with a nice hook. Mir throws a nice looking combination but Stewart bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Stewart connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt. Stewart swinging wildly here.

That's one minute gone in the round. Stewart gets a double leg takedown into Mir's guard. Stewart controlling from the top position. Stewart postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Stewart trying to control the position from guard on top but Mir is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Mir is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Stewart throws a big elbow that misses. Stewart stops Mir from standing up. Mir is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Stewart dives into side control.

Stewart looks up at the clock and then as Mir takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Stewart smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Stewart is putting a hurting on Mir here, landing some big shots from side control. Mir wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done! Stewart wants to lay and pray for a moment but Mir keeps working. Mir is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Stewart asserts his dominance and retains side control. Mir takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

Stewart has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Stewart cracks Mir with a big elbow. Mir wants to get back to his feet. He might have it! No, Mir has escaped the position, nice work there. Mir tries to escape but Stewart is in control. Stewart wants to control but Mir is keeping him busy. Don Stewart dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Stewart darts in looking for a takedown but Mir gets double underhooks and turns Stewart into the cage. Yoel Mir has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Don Stewart. Stewart throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Yoel Mir is winning the standup battle so far. Stewart takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Mir takes a swing at Stewart's ribcage but misses. Mir is looking to wear down Stewart with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment. Mir throws a body kick but he was well out of range there. Mir throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Mir closes the distance and pushes Stewart back into the cage. Stewart tries to pull guard but Mir forces him back to his feet, against the cage. Mir goes for a body shot but it's blocked.

Mir lands on the inside with an uppercut. Stewart has been the more effective fighter overall so far. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Stewart breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Stewart tries to bum rush Mir with a series of wild strikes but Mir uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Stewart bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Mir's head backwards. Mir fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Stewart has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage. Stewart tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Mir is able to avoid easily. Stewart looks to land a left hand but Mir moved out of range nicely. Mir is looking to slow Stewart down with leg kicks. Stewart's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down. Stewart lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise. Stewart looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Mir kicks off Stewart and gets to his feet. Stewart throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.

Mir lunges at Stewart with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Stewart's hand. Mir takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away. Mir tried to score with a low kick but Stewart checks it. Stewart tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away. A jab from Stewart misses. Stewart avoids the body shot from Mir.
