Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Lucas Azambuja! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Tracy Minaj! The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, Michael Johnstone and Santiago Holmes.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Minaj tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Azambuja counters with a left to the body. Azambuja throws a body shot but no joy. Minaj tries to clinch up but Azambuja circles away and keeps his distance. Minaj misses the shot to the body. Minaj dives in and grabs Azambuja's left leg, looking for a takedown. Azambuja pushes down on Minaj's head and hops out. Minaj looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. Minaj throws a jab when Azambuja was well out of range. Minaj manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Azambuja on his heels. He'll look to pass Azambuja's guard now, I'm sure. Azambuja is wriggling around but Minaj manages to pass to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Minaj is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. Azambuja definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Minaj looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Azambuja with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Minaj takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. Azambuja on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Azambuja tries to get out of the position. Minaj takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Minaj winds up and cracks Azambuja with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Minaj is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Minaj landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent. Minaj working Azambuja over with strikes. Azambuja is trying to maintain the position but Minaj is very close to passing his half guard. Minaj looks to score some points with some ground and pound. Minaj seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Minaj lands strikes from half guard. Minaj scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Azambuja on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound. Nice strikes from Minaj there. Minaj has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Minaj lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Minaj seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Azambuja is rocked! Azambuja wants to improve his position but Minaj is controlling well.
Oh Azambuja is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Minaj is sitting in half guard. He's postured up and lands a nice elbow. Oh, Azambuja is hurt! He's hurt bad - Minaj fires away with more strikes and the referee jumps in to save Azambuja from any more punishment! Congratulations to Minaj! Great finish!
