PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Joe Average (ranked 1313 p4p, 201 weight class) and Geo Versu (ranked 1486 p4p, 230 weight class). Joe Average has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Joe Average!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Geo Versu!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Joseph Jones and Reed Andrews.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Versu gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Average to score an easy takedown into full guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Average trying to control the position from guard on top but Versu is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Versu can do anything to dispel that myth.
Versu is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Versu keeping moving, preventing Average from controlling successfully.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Average is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Versu is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Average controls from within his opponent's guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Average drops back looking for a leg! Versu is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Versu manages to kick Average off! Average jumps back into Versu's guard.
Versu keeping full guard, as Average tries to pass.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Average feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Versu keeping full guard, as Average tries to pass.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Average works over Versu with some ground and pound from guard.
Average's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Versu wants to get back to his feet but Average is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Average is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Versu keeping moving, preventing Average from controlling successfully.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Versu throws a push kick but Average slaps the foot to one side.

Average changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Versu looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Average is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Versu's shoulder. That is not cool.
Versu is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Average has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Average trying to control the action but Versu is working from the bottom.
Average working the ground and pound but Versu is defending the strikes.
Average content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

Average working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Average staying calm.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Joe Average dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Average takes one to the side of the head.
Versu connects with a solid leg kick.

Versu cracks Average with a big right hand that sends him crashing to the floor. Versu has the opportunity to follow him to the ground but instead he's beckoning Average to stand back up!


Average is rocked!
Versu shakes his hands by his side, trying to relax. Average takes his eyes off the ball for a moment - Versu sees the opportunity and cracks him with a massive hook! Average bends double and collapses on top of himself - he's out! The crowd are going absolutely nuts! Wow, what a knockout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:30 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Geo Versu!
After the fight, Geo Versu was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
