Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Diyorbek Nurudinov (ranked 2026 p4p, 245 weight class) and Awut Smith (ranked 2051 p4p, 249 weight class). Smith comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Ladies and Gentlemen kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Awut Smith has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Diyorbek Nurudinov's chin.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Franklyn Lucas and John Kavanagh.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nurudinov tries to close the distance and clinch but Smith swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Nurudinov shoots in for a double leg but Smith sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Smith jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Smith stuffs the takedown.
Nurudinov slips a jab and a cross from Smith.
Smith ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Nurudinov moves away.
Nurudinov misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Smith.
Smith throws a jab when Nurudinov was well out of range.
Nurudinov takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
It looks like Diyorbek Nurudinov has been cut.
Smith misses the body punch
and Nurudinov counters with a shoot takedown. Smith fights it but they end up in guard.
Nurudinov throws an elbow that misses. Smith uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Nurudinov's guard. Nice move by Smith!
Nurudinov has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Smith would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Nurudinov escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Smith gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Nurudinov is working an open guard so Smith takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Smith scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Nurudinov doesn't seem bothered though.
Smith misses with a looping left.
Smith just misses with a punch to the body.
Smith fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Nurudinov has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Smith lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.

Good shot there by Smith.
Awut Smith is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Smith throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Nurudinov bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Smith is looking to chop away at Nurudinov's legs.
Smith throws a jab but it's blocked by Nurudinov.
Smith connects with a crisp jab.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

and Nurudinov counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Smith!
Nurudinov postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Nurudinov fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Smith told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.
The ground and pound from Nurudinov seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

Nurudinov connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Smith some visible discomfort.
It looks like Awut Smith has been cut.

The cut above Awut Smith's eye is starting to cause him problems now.

Nurudinov looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Smith with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Awut Smith's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.
The referee calls the doctor in to look at Awut Smith's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:41 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Diyorbek Nurudinov!
