Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between James Osterberg (ranked 2806 p4p, 131 weight class) and Papa John (ranked 6622 p4p, 235 weight class). Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, James Osterberg!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Papa John!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Steve Montenegro and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
John throws a series of punches but Osterberg avoids them all with ease.
John ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Osterberg tries a head kick but it misses.
John swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
John cracks a nice hook into Osterberg's ribs.

Osterberg shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Osterberg is trying to control. John wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
We've been hearing that Osterberg has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.

Osterberg is sneakily working for an arm triangle but John sees it coming and defends easily.

Osterberg is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, John has managed to free his arm - good work.
John wants to improve his position but Osterberg is controlling well.
Osterberg landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
John is looking to control Osterberg's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can John avoid being mounted?

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Osterberg lands a nice short elbow.

Osterberg has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
John tries to get to full guard but Osterberg has control of the leg.

Osterberg wants to work for an arm triangle but John is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

John wants to get back to his feet.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
The fighters are battling for position here. John manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Osterberg scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
John not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

John isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Osterberg stacks John on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Osterberg!

Osterberg thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
John is looking for a sweep.

Osterberg advances nicely into full mount.
John is bucking up trying to escape but Osterberg cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
John sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.

John is trying to maintain the position but Osterberg is very close to passing his half guard.
Osterberg wants to control but John is keeping him busy.
John is trying to control but can't.
Osterberg working over John with some ground and pound. John looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
John is not content to let Osterberg control the position.
John is trying to get back to full guard.
John is holding on to half guard well.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


A nice combination there by John.
Osterberg throws a head kick but John moves out of range.

Osterberg pushes John up against the cage in a clinch.
John misses with a hook to the ribs.
A left hand lands to the body for John.

Osterberg has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed John clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

John throws a combination. Osterberg tries to block but a couple of punches get through.

John fails to land with a series of punches.
Osterberg tries to counter with a takedown but John is quick to defend against it.
John lands a nice hook to Osterberg's body. Osterberg takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Osterberg takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
John steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Osterberg. That one must have hurt.

Osterberg decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Osterberg is nestled in close to John, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Osterberg is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

John wants to control but Osterberg is keeping busy and won't allow it.
John has hold of Osterberg's hands but Osterberg slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

John is refusing to be controlled, as Osterberg sits in half guard.
Osterberg passes the guard and advances to mount!

John tries to lock up and control but Osterberg gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Osterberg goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now John is on top in guard.
Osterberg controls John momentarily but John frees himself.

Osterberg is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Osterberg wants to free his trapped foot but John is holding on for dear life with his legs.

James Osterberg overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
John has a hand on Osterberg's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Osterberg takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!
Osterberg prevents John from getting the reversal.

Papa John showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


John lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by John.
John throws a wild body kick that Osterberg sees coming a mile off.
Osterberg misses with a straight left.
Nice uppercut there from Osterberg.
Osterberg staying out of range there.
John moves in looking to clinch but Osterberg pushes him off.
Papa John is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
John will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Osterberg is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in John's half guard.

Osterberg is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and John defends it well.

Osterberg seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Osterberg is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for John!
John tries to lock up and control but Osterberg gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Osterberg takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
John is concentrating on defense, preventing Osterberg from advancing position.
Osterberg wants to take a breather but John is having none of it.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
John wants to control but Osterberg is keeping busy.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
John pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
John misses with a body shot.
Osterberg jinks towards his opponent looking like he wants to counter with a mid kick but doesn't commit.
John pulls out of a head kick attempt.
John moves to clinch but Osterberg breaks away
and John takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Osterberg swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Osterberg throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Osterberg throws a wild body kick that John sees coming a mile off.
A nice side step and John releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.

And that's the end of the fight!
James Osterberg showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Osterberg has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

After the fight, James Osterberg was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
