Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
10 - 11 - 1, fighting out of New York, Jeff Hudson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
11 - 18 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Steven Kennedy! The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Franklyn Lucas and Jonathan Paton.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kennedy fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Hudson. Hudson tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Hudson lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head. Kennedy throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Kennedy misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Kennedy lands with a nice body punch. Hudson has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. Kennedy tries a head kick but it misses.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Hudson crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Kennedy - the referee stops the clock and Hudson gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Kennedy. Hudson manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes. Hudson has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Kennedy. Hudson fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Kennedy manages to avoid it. Hudson throws a low kick but it's checked well by Kennedy. Hudson throws a head kick but Kennedy moves out of range.
Hudson throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Hudson misses with a left hand and Kennedy counters with a stiff right hand. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Kennedy misses with a body kick. Hudson lands the left hand. Hudson ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Kennedy moves away. Kennedy keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Hudson.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kennedy throws a push kick but Hudson slaps the foot to one side. Nice body punch from Kennedy. Nice uppercut lands for Kennedy. That snapped Hudson's head back.
Hudson takes a swing at Kennedy's ribcage but misses. A combination from Hudson does no damage. Kennedy scores with a nice body kick.
Kennedy moves into the clinch. The referee calls for Kennedy to work.
Kennedy is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace. Hudson goes for a takedown in the clinch but Kennedy prevents it.
Hudson tries to circle away but Kennedy has him pinned against the cage. Kennedy has Hudson pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Hudson manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Kennedy has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Hudson uses from the top position. Hudson avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Hudson pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Kennedy is keeping the position for now. Kennedy is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Hudson defends well. Hudson gets to his feet. Kennedy looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son! Kennedy gets caught napping as Hudson dives in and scores a takedown. Kennedy manages to retain guard. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Hudson keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Kennedy's head. That's three minutes gone in the round. Hudson postures up and lands a big shot to Kennedy's brow. Hudson lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. Kennedy keeping full guard, as Hudson tries to pass. Hudson sitting in guard here, content to control. Hudson decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. Kennedy throws a front kick that sends Hudson stumbling back into the cage. Hudson shoots for a double leg takedown but Kennedy sprawls well. He's pushed Hudson's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Kennedy is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here. Hudson throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd. Kennedy takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away. Hudson lands a two punch combo.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Hudson lands a jab to Kennedy's midsection. Hudson changes levels and scores with a jab to the body. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Kennedy fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Kennedy blocks a low kick nicely. Kennedy fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Hudson. Kennedy clinches up against the cage. Kennedy stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky. Hudson wants to break the clinch but can't.
Hudson is defending well against a takedown attempt. Jeff Hudson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Steven Kennedy. Kennedy pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Hudson slaps away a takedown attempt from Kennedy, before circling back to the center of the mat. Hudson scores with a shot to the body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Jeff Hudson will probably get the nod. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Kennedy throws a looping overhand right but Hudson ducks down to avoid it. Hudson shoots in for a takedown but Kennedy shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Hudson dives in and scores a takedown into Kennedy's guard. Kennedy throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Hudson escapes and throws Kennedy's legs to the side, diving into side control! Kennedy manages to work his way to half guard, despite Hudson's best efforts. Kennedy trying to control from the bottom.
Hudson controlling the pace. Kennedy makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Kennedy. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Hudson's corner is telling him to maintain position. Hudson trying to control the position from guard on top but Kennedy is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Hudson keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Kennedy's head. Hudson has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Jeff Hudson overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Hudson controlling from the top position. Kennedy escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Hudson gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Hudson wants to pass the guard but Kennedy is keeping the position. Kennedy is trying to control the position but Hudson postures up. Hudson tries to free his leg and advance position but Kennedy is retaining full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Hudson wants to control from the top but Kennedy keeps moving. Kennedy is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Hudson looking to pass the guard. Kennedy has his foot on Hudson's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Hudson works his way back into a safe position though. Hudson trying to control the position from guard on top but Kennedy is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Kennedy tries a head kick but it misses.

A decent looking cross lands there for Kennedy. Hudson sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs. Hudson stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Kennedy. Hudson misses with a low kick as Kennedy jumps back. Hudson throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
A punch combination from Hudson misses. The fighters circling - Hudson throws out the jab but it was never going to land. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jeff Hudson dominated that second round. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!
Nice body kick there by Kennedy. Hudson keeps the fight on the outside. Kennedy ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Kennedy lands with a nice body punch. A low kick from Kennedy lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Hudson has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Hudson and we're back underway with a touch of gloves. Kennedy misses with a body kick. A punch combination from Hudson misses. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Kennedy moves into range and connects with a jab. Hudson looks to land a combination but Kennedy avoids it well. Kennedy misses with a body kick. Hudson throws a jab but it's blocked by Kennedy. Kennedy connects with an inside leg kick.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hudson tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him. Hudson is trying hard to land a takedown here. Kennedy sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Kennedy misses with a low kick. Kennedy will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

Kennedy is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch. Jab by Kennedy. Kennedy does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy. Hudson swings and misses with a hook to the body.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Hudson takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
A looping hook to the body misses from Kennedy. Hudson does a little dance to reset his feet. Kennedy looks to land a body kick but Hudson moved away. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Kennedy leaves Hudson with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Kennedy avoids the body shot from Hudson.

Hudson is rocked! Excellent takedown into side control there by Kennedy. Hudson tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck. Oh Hudson is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Kennedy takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Kennedy cracks Hudson with a big head shot that has him covering up instantly! He's rolled onto his side and the referee has seen enough - this one is aaaaaaaaaaall over!
