PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Eric Arruda (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brian Cyan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Arruda comes into the arena with Eu Sou o Eric ( No Meu Cross Fox) blaring out of the sound system. Brian Cyan has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cyan moves in looking to clinch but Arruda pushes him off.
Arruda looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
Cyan stuffs the takedown.
Cyan throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Arruda tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.

Cyan lands a high kick to the side of Arruda's head that stuns him and send him tumbling down to the canvas! Cyan dives into guard, looking to finish.

Arruda is rocked!

It looks like Eric Arruda has been cut.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Cyan not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Oh Arruda is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Cyan's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Cyan must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Despite being in the dominant position, Brian Cyan just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Cyan connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Arruda some visible discomfort.

Cyan thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

You can see the frustration on Arruda's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Cyan has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Arruda is squirming around, avoiding Cyan's attempts to control the action.

Cyan wants to finish this one by submission but Arruda is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Cyan.

Arruda could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Cyan takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Cyan breaks from Arruda's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Cyan looking to control but Arruda is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Cyan is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

and Arruda counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Arruda.

Arruda has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Cyan regains guard immediately.

That's time! Arruda's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Cyan fails with the takedown

and Arruda counters with a nice double leg into side control. Cyan won't be happy with that.
Cyan wants to control but Arruda postures up.

Arruda tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Arruda has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Cyan kicks off Arruda and gets to his feet.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

and Arruda decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Cyan's guard.
Cyan is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Cyan is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Arruda regains half guard there - taking advantage of Cyan's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.
