PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mike Thomas (ranked 1008 p4p, 39 weight class) and Yhorm Giant (ranked 1913 p4p, 68 weight class). Thomas comes to the cage accompanied by Onward To Victory. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the super heavyweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
18 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Mike Thomas! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Yhorm Giant! The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Alec Ball and Dillan Fox.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Thomas throws a series of punches but Giant moves out of range. Giant looks like he wants to counter punch here. Thomas tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Giant defends well and Thomas ends up having to push Giant into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Giant now looks to counter with a shot at the body. Giant connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Thomas momentarily.
It looks like Mike Thomas has been cut. Decent striking displayed by Giant there. Thomas decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Giant manages to escape and get back to his feet! Giant has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Thomas is landing a low percentage of strikes. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! A telegraphed takedown attempt from Thomas is defended easily by Giant. Thomas misses with a wild body shot. A looping hook to the body misses from Thomas. Giant does a little dance to reset his feet. Thomas has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Midnight MMA in the buildup to the fight. Giant lands a body shot.
Oooh a lovely combination from Giant sends Thomas down but not out. Giant dives into side control looking to finish. Giant wants to control but Thomas is keeping him busy. Thomas is looking to regain half guard here but Giant keeps moving and retains side control. Thomas is working hard here to advance position. Thomas is trying to control Giant's posture but Giant avoids it. Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground!
That's one minute gone in the round. Giant controlling the position from side mount. Thomas struggling a bit here. Giant cracks Thomas with a big right hand but Thomas just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Thomas dodges the ground and pound from Giant. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Thomas tries to improve position but can't. Giant decides to stand back up. Giant lands a high kick to the side of Thomas's head that stuns him and send him tumbling down to the canvas! Giant dives into guard, looking to finish.
Thomas is rocked!
Mike Thomas's cut is getting worse. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Giant sitting in guard, not really doing much. Thomas is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Thomas is trying to keep Giant in close.
Giant with a flurry of punches that miss. Thomas looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Thomas has his foot on Giant's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Giant works his way back into a safe position though. Thomas throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
Thomas working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Giant. Giant postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Giant stands up from guard. Let's bang! Thomas stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Giant. Thomas takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Thomas is breathing heavily. Giant throws a head kick but Thomas moves out of range.
Thomas jabbing away but nothing is landing. Giant swings for the body but Thomas moves out of range.
Giant scores with a nice head shot.
Mike Thomas's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it. Thomas decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Giant is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Thomas is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Giant doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Thomas. Giant is defending against the submission attempts here by Thomas.
Giant has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Thomas is working away from the top position though.
That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Thomas has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Giant tries to reverse the position but Thomas maintains control. Thomas swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Giant is now in Thomas's guard. A big mistake from Thomas there, giving up the dominant position! Thomas being controlled here, momentarily. Thomas throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Giant's corner is telling him to maintain position. Thomas had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Giant defends it easily. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Yhorm Giant dominated that round. The cut man is working on Mike Thomas's cut. That's time! Back to the action!
Thomas misses with an uppercut. Giant lands a high kick to the side of Thomas's head that stuns him and send him tumbling down to the canvas! Giant dives into guard, looking to finish. Thomas manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Giant manages to get himself to full guard.
Thomas postures up and lands a big shot to Giant's brow. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Giant bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Thomas's guard. Giant trying to control but Thomas is working from the bottom. Giant throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Thomas works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Thomas has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Giant should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Thomas has tightened it up now! Giant should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:51 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Mike Thomas! Mike Thomas retains his super heavyweight title! Our winner, Mike Thomas, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
