Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
18 - 17 - 0, fighting out of London, Kareem Dennis ! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Atreyu Nakamotto! The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Reed Andrews and David Schapiro.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Dennis misses with a wild body shot. Nakamotto rushes Dennis and presses him up against the cage. Nakamotto is pressed up against the cage. Dennis has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Nakamotto down to the mat. Nakamotto avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. Dennis swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Dennis misses with a straight left. Dennis throws a right hand that Nakamotto ducks under and follows up with a left that Nakamotto also avoids with ease. And an attempted straight right on the counter from Nakamotto! But no joy. Dennis misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Nakamotto moves into the clinch. Dennis tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Nakamotto just stands there and leans against the cage. Nakamotto blocks an uppercut.
Nakamotto lands an uppercut. Nakamotto misses with some punches.
Dennis blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Nakamotto has a couple of punches blocked by Dennis .
Dennis tries to score a body lock takedown but Nakamotto shows good agility there to stay on his feet. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kareem Dennis . That's going to take a lot out of him. Dennis has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Nakamotto avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch. Nakamotto lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage. Nakamotto swings wildly with an uppercut but Dennis uses good head movement to avoid it. An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Nakamotto. Nakamotto lands a right hand that snaps the head of Dennis backwards. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! A short right from Nakamotto on the inside.
That's one minute gone in the round. Dennis blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Dennis jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Nakamotto walks away with a smile on his face. Dennis gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Nakamotto forces Dennis back against the cage and clinches. Dennis tries to score a body lock takedown but Nakamotto shows good agility there to stay on his feet. Dennis scores with a shoulder strike. Dennis softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage. Dennis is looking for a takedown. Nakamotto gets underhooks to prevent Dennis 's takedown attempt.
Nakamotto misses with a hook to the ribs.
Nakamotto swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Dennis jumps guard but Nakamotto turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing. Dennis pulls guard. Nakamotto must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Nakamotto stopping the sweep attempt from Dennis . Dennis looking to control.
Dennis is looking to cinch up a triangle. Nakamotto throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Dennis 's body to avoid the submission. Dennis has instead reached around Nakamotto's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Dennis arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Kareem Dennis ! After the fight, Kareem Dennis was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
