PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Hans Hermann Hoppe (ranked 399 p4p, 51 weight class) and Harry Kane (ranked 234 p4p, 31 weight class). Hoppe comes into the arena with Wind of Change blaring out of the sound system. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Hans Hermann Hoppe!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 10 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Harry Kane!
The judges for this bout are James Glass, Paul Tew and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A shot to the liver by Kane. Beautiful body shot.
A jab from Kane does it's job there.
Hoppe shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Kane sprawls well. Kane wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Hoppe gets slowly back to his feet.
Hoppe takes a swing at Kane's ribcage but misses.
Hoppe tries to close the distance and clinch up but Kane swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Hoppe shoots in for a takedown but Kane shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Despite the aggression on Kane's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Kane throws a shot from downtown. Hoppe moves away and avoids it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hoppe shoots for a takedown but Kane saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Hoppe has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Soul Supremacy Rio in the buildup to the fight.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Hans Hermann Hoppe. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Kane bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Hoppe's head.
A looping hook to the body misses from Kane. Hoppe does a little dance to reset his feet.

A chopping leg kick lands by Kane.
Hoppe rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Kane counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Kane misses with a hook. Hoppe ducked under it nicely.
Hoppe ducks right into an uppercut from Kane.
Hoppe shoots for a takedown but Kane saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Hans Hermann Hoppe seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hoppe shoots in for a takedown but Kane shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Kane looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Hoppe shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Kane but Kane pushes him off and we're back to square one.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Kane is looking to regain half guard here but Hoppe keeps moving and retains side control.
Kane can't do much from the bottom here.
Kane is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Hoppe has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Kane is looking for a sweep. Hoppe is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Kane has one foot on Hoppe's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Kane misses with a combination

and Hoppe counters with a nice double leg into side control. Kane won't be happy with that.
Kane is looking for a sweep.
Hoppe misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Hoppe misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Kane tries to bench press Hoppe off him but Hoppe keeps the position.
You can see the frustration on Kane's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Kane is trying to control Hoppe's posture but Hoppe avoids it.

Hoppe thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Kane is looking to regain half guard here but Hoppe keeps moving and retains side control.
Hoppe throws a strike aimed at the side of Kane's head but Kane avoids it well.
Hoppe in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Hoppe tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Kane takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Hoppe is chipping away with strikes.
Hoppe grinds an elbow into Kane's temple.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Harry Kane will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Hoppe throws a body shot but no joy.
Kane throws out a counter right but Hoppe avoids it with no problem.
Hoppe misses with a takedown attempt
and Kane counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Kane misses with an uppercut

so Hoppe counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Kane controls Hoppe momentarily but Hoppe frees himself.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Kane is looking to stand up but Hoppe isn't so interested in that idea.
Hoppe postures up.
Hoppe lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Kane wants to stand up but Hoppe is controlling him.
Kane is pulling down on Hoppe's head to control his posture.

Kane is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Hoppe is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Kane lands a right hand that snaps the head of Hoppe backwards.

Kane breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Hoppe tries to move into range but Kane moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.

Hoppe misses with a right hand
and Kane counters with a lovely shot to the body.

Hoppe gets in close and instigates a clinch.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Come on Hoppe - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Kane lands with a short shot to the head.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Kane lands an uppercut.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
Hoppe is trying to drag Kane to the mat but Kane just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Kane misses with a hook from the clinch.
Hoppe takes an elbow to the temple.

Hoppe can't get the takedown.
Hoppe wants to stall.
Kane misses with a short punch on the inside.
Kane prevents a takedown attempt there.
Kane scores with a hook to the body.

Kane escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Hoppe fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Hoppe shoots in looking for a takedown. Kane tries to sprawl out of it but Hoppe keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Kane manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Kane has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Hoppe shoots in for a takedown but Kane shows good takedown defense.

Hoppe closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Kane quickly recovers to half guard.

Kane cracks the inside of Hoppe's front leg.

Harry Kane showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Hoppe moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Hoppe checks a leg kick.

Kane gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Hoppe is looking to take a break and control but Kane is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Well, if Hoppe is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Hans Hermann Hoppe overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Hoppe slips a nice elbow through Kane's hands, connecting with Kane's forehead.

Kane wants to stand up but Hoppe is controlling him.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Hoppe trying to control the position from guard on top but Kane is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Hoppe wants to pass the guard but Kane is keeping the position.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Kane throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Harry Kane seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Kane swings and misses with a shot to the body

and Hoppe counters with a nice double leg into side control. Kane won't be happy with that.

Kane throws Hoppe to one side and escapes!
Hoppe throws a head kick but Kane moves out of range.
Kane only half commits to the counter leg kick.
Kane checks a leg kick.
Kane lands a two punch combo.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
A big right from Hoppe misses.
Kane has been working his punching technique in the buildup to the fight and it appears to be paying off.

Hoppe looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Kane tries to roll over but Hoppe keeps him under control.

Ground and pound from Hoppe.
Kane tries to kick Hoppe off but Hoppe keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Kane is not content to let Hoppe control the position.
Kane slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Hoppe controls from within his opponent's guard.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Hoppe's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Hoppe keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Kane's head.
Hans Hermann Hoppe has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground!
Hoppe advances position into side control!

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Hans Hermann Hoppe.
I think Kane has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Harry Kane decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
