PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Klaus Chugman (ranked 442 p4p, 22 weight class) and Wamberto Boaz (ranked 161 p4p, 11 weight class). Boaz has chosen Preciso me encontrar as his entrance music. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Klaus Chugman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 7 - 0, fighting out of London, Wamberto Boaz!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Bruno Lombardi and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chugman is looking to clinch.
Boaz connects with a single shot there.
Chugman looks to land a left hand but Boaz moved out of range nicely.
Boaz scores with a jab. Chugman acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Chugman has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

Boaz closes the distance and clinches.

Chugman pulls guard successfully.
Boaz passes Chugman's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Chugman is refusing to be controlled, as Boaz sits in half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Boaz tries to stand but can't do so whilst Chugman controls his leg.

Boaz is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Boaz uses his free foot to push down on Chugman's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Chugman.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Boaz prevents Chugman from getting the reversal.
Chugman tries to hold on but Boaz postures up.
Boaz looking to control but Chugman is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Boaz might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Chugman haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Chugman slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.

Boaz wants to pass the guard but Chugman is defending well.
Chugman is staying active underneath Boaz, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Boaz seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Chugman does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Boaz wants to pass to mount but Chugman is defending the position.
Boaz is taking a breather. Chugman says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Boaz is trying to control. Chugman wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Chugman tries to roll over but Boaz keeps him under control.

Boaz is stalling here. Chugman is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Boaz seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Chugman has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Boaz is looking for a sweep.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Boaz tests Chugman's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Boaz has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Chugman throws a hook but Boaz avoids it easily.
Boaz circles away from the clinch attempt.
Boaz scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Chugman takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Chugman swings away with a body shot that misses
and Boaz counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Chugman is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Boaz is aware though and is defending well.
Chugman wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Chugman escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Boaz gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Boaz wants to lay and pray for a moment but Chugman keeps working.
Chugman is positioning himself well to prevent Boaz advancing to mount.

Chugman is trying desperately to improve position.
Boaz wants to control the pace but Chugman is squirming around nicely.
Chugman might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Boaz is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Chugman has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Chugman bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Boaz is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Chugman defends well.
Chugman is fighting to break Boaz's control of his arms but Boaz is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Our spies down at at Dr Hatsumi's Clinic inform us that Boaz has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?

That's time! Chugman's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Horrible takedown attempt by Boaz or perhaps it was just good defense by Chugman, which made it look bad.

Chugman shoots for a double leg takedown but Boaz sprawls well. He's pushed Chugman's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Boaz unleashes a big counter combination but Chugman bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Klaus Chugman seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Chugman tries to close the distance and clinch but Boaz swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Chugman shoots in but Boaz avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Wamberto Boaz comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Boaz has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
