Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Anthony Johnson (ranked 1289 p4p, 195 weight class) and Geo Versu (ranked 904 p4p, 136 weight class). Geo Versu has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
14 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Anthony Johnson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Geo Versu! The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Russell Pearce and Eddie Farnsworth.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Johnson moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body. Johnson avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Versu looks to land a left hand but Johnson moved out of range nicely. Johnson connects with a single shot there. Versu drives through and clinches with Johnson against the cage.
Johnson digs a right hand underneath Versu's ribcage. Versu let out a lung full of air as it connected. Johnson prevents a body shot from Versu. A nice right hand lands inside from Johnson. Versu with an attempt at a knee that misses.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Johnson. Johnson lands a damaging elbow. Versu slows down the pace here.
Johnson lands with a left to the head. This has been an exciting period of action! Johnson prevents a body shot from Versu. Johnson on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.

With the fighters clinched against the cage, Versu creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut. Johnson jumps guard.

Johnson has his foot on Versu's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Versu works his way back into a safe position though. Johnson working a defensive guard here.
Johnson has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Versu is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Johnson. Johnson manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Versu is looking to stand up but Johnson isn't so interested in that idea. Johnson working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Johnson landing some decent shots from guard. Johnson postures up in Versu's guard and throws a big left but Versu blocks it.

Versu is looking to stand up but Johnson isn't so interested in that idea. Johnson postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Versu preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Versu avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Versu keeping full guard, as Johnson tries to pass. Johnson throws a strike but Versu rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Johnson has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Johnson had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Versu defends it easily. Johnson throws his legs up looking for a submission but Versu uses it to pass to side control.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Johnson is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Versu is one step ahead and moves to full mount! Johnson is looking to improve his position but Versu isn't that keen on the idea. Johnson is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at Roosters Coop that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet. Johnson tries to lock up and control but Versu gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Versu prevents Johnson from getting the reversal. Johnson is working hard here to advance position. Versu gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks! Johnson lands a head shot. Johnson shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Versu defends it nicely. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Versu smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button. Johnson slips under a jab. Johnson throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Johnson takes a swing at Versu's ribcage but misses. Johnson rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Versu moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Johnson moves out of range of the body kick from Versu.

and Johnson counters with a stiff right hand. Versu looks for the body kick but Johnson saw that one coming. Versu lands with a straight right. Johnson didn't see that one coming. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Versu throws an off balance right hand
and Johnson counters with a left and a right that stings Versu. Versu throws a right hand that misses
and Johnson counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt. Versu gets tackled into the cage by Johnson. Johnson maintains the clinch. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Versu tries a knee to the head but Johnson blocks it.

That's one minute gone in the round. Versu pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Johnson rushes Versu and presses him up against the cage. Anthony Johnson has scored more points in the clinch so far. Versu is trying to maintain a safe position but Johnson gets an underhook and turns Versu into the cage. Johnson blocks a body shot from Versu. Versu misses with a knee to the head. Johnson misses with a short punch on the inside. Johnson breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Johnson moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination. Johnson lands with a hook. Versu tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head. Johnson tries to clinch up. Versu slips a jab and a cross from Johnson.
Johnson fails with a takedown attempt. Johnson stalks Versu and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Versu's face. Versu staggers backwards, shaken.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Versu pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way. Versu keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Versu loads up on a big right hand but Johnson slips the punch. Versu pushing out the jab but it's not landing. It looked like Johnson was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Versu. Johnson tries to clinch up. Horrible takedown attempt by Johnson or perhaps it was just good defense by Versu, which made it look bad. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Anthony Johnson. That's going to take a lot out of him. Johnson throws a left and a right that both miss

Johnson is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Versu to escape.
Versu felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Versu can do anything to dispel that myth. Johnson looking to control but instead Versu has slipped a leg in, to regain half guard. Anthony Johnson overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Johnson wants to work for an arm triangle but Versu is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

That was a close second round but I would say that Anthony Johnson will probably get the nod. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Versu tries to close the distance and clinch up but Johnson swats him away and circles back towards the center. Johnson gets in close and instigates a clinch. Johnson's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button! Versu looking to throw knees to the head but Johnson is blocking nicely.

Johnson walks into a straight right hand from Versu. The crowd cheers as Versu lands an impressive looking overhand right. Johnson doesn't seem phased though. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Johnson walks into a stiff left hand from Versu. Versu throws a good cross that connects.

Johnson is rocked! Geo Versu is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Johnson lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Oh Johnson is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Johnson wants to clinch up but Versu keeps it at a distance. Johnson seems to have got his legs back now. Versu fakes a jab and then connects with a hook. Versu throws a body kick that digs right into the meat. Johnson tries to score a power double leg takedown but Versu sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Johnson somewhat. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Anthony Johnson. That's going to take a lot out of him. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Johnson tries to clinch there but Versu circles away.

Versu swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made. Versu blocks a jab. Versu lands with a nice body punch. Johnson checks a leg kick. A looping hook to the body misses from Johnson. Versu does a little dance to reset his feet. Versu swings and misses with a hook to the body.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Versu pushes Johnson up against the cage in a clinch. Versu lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Johnson or not. Versu throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges. Versu drops Johnson with a big knee straight up the middle! Johnson is covering up against the cage but manages to escape and gets back to his feet! Versu knocks out Johnson with a massive right hand! The ref tackles Versu before he can follow up with any more strikes and that's it everyone. Versu picks up the big W with a huge KO!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:20 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Geo Versu! Geo Versu decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
