Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Aaron Cooke (ranked 24393 p4p, 0 weight class) and Larry Laffer (ranked 5246 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Aaron Cooke!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Larry Laffer!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Skip Squint and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cooke fails with a takedown attempt.
Cooke stuffs the takedown attempt from Laffer. Laffer gets slowly back to his feet.
Laffer throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Cooke's waist but Cooke gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Laffer off to one side.
Cooke closes this distance looking for a takedown but Laffer circles away.
Laffer changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Laffer goes for a double leg but Cooke avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Cooke continues to drive forward.
Aaron Cooke has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Larry Laffer.

Cooke tries to sprawl but Laffer drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Cooke is trying to escape back to his feet but Laffer uses the scramble to pass into side control.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Cooke stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Cooke wants it to stay on the feet.

Laffer rushes Cooke and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Cooke fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Cooke can't find room to land a body shot as Laffer controls the action.
Laffer is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Cooke gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Cooke tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Laffer wants a takedown.
Cooke is trying to pull guard but Laffer turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Laffer breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Laffer's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Cooke sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.

Laffer rushes Cooke and presses him up against the cage.

Laffer has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Cooke regains guard immediately.
Cooke is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Laffer pushes down on Cooke's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Laffer perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Laffer thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Cooke's head.

Cooke wants to get back to full guard.
Laffer thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Laffer postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Cooke to stand up.
Laffer shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Cooke as he avoids it easily.
Laffer misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Cooke attempts a counter takedown but Laffer avoids it well and moves away.

Laffer closes the distance and clinches.
Laffer jumps guard but Cooke stands there with Laffer around his waist. Laffer gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Laffer shoots for a double leg takedown but Cooke sprawls well. He's pushed Laffer's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Laffer fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Laffer is breathing heavily.
Laffer looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Cooke forces Laffer back against the cage and clinches.
Laffer fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Cooke tries to circle away but Laffer has him pinned against the cage.
Laffer has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Cooke tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Laffer smiles and moves away.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Laffer.
Laffer shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Cooke pinned against the cage. Cooke gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Cooke tries to clinch but Laffer is having none of it.
Cooke really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Laffer shoots in for a double leg but Cooke sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Cooke is looking to counter the offense by Laffer and move into the clinch.

Laffer has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Cooke is on him like a limpet, forcing Laffer back against the cage.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Cooke fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Cooke tries to pull guard but Laffer holds him up against the cage and eventually Cooke drops back down to his feet.
Laffer has Cooke pushed against the cage.
Laffer has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Cooke is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Well Laffer has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
