Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Stewie Griffin! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Di Pinha! The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Edson Gomes and Felipe Paraventi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Pinha drives through with a takedown into guard. Pinha must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Pinha advances position into side control! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Pinha decides to stand back up. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Pinha. Griffin fails with an attempt to clinch.
Pinha rushes Griffin and presses him up against the cage. Griffin tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Pinha breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Pinha blocks a head kick by Griffin.
Pinha moves into the clinch. Pinha pulls guard successfully.
Griffin throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Pinha works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Pinha keeping moving, preventing Griffin from controlling successfully.
That's one minute gone in the round. Pinha is looking for a triangle but Griffin pushes his legs off easily.
Griffin postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Pinha is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Griffin, into his guard. Pinha stands over his opponent and dives in with a flying punch! Griffin throws up his legs and catches Pinha in a triangle! Oh this looks tight! Pinha tries to escape but he's forced to tap! Wow, fantastic work there by Griffin! That came out of nowhere!
