PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Avila Alvarez (ranked 7898 p4p, 593 weight class) and Willie Salazar (ranked 17648 p4p, 649 weight class). Alvarez comes to the cage accompanied by Barbarian by The Darkness. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 30 - 2, fighting out of London, Avila Alvarez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 17 - 0, fighting out of New York, Willie Salazar!
The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Lou da Vinci and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Salazar moves into the clinch.
Our sources have told us that Alvarez has been working on his knees in the buildup to the fight.

Alvarez is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Salazar can't fight it off and eventually Alvarez manages to take the fight to the floor. Salazar looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Salazar is looking for a triangle but Alvarez pushes his legs off easily.

Salazar looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Alvarez working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Salazar's head.

Alvarez works over Salazar with some ground and pound from guard.

Alvarez wants to pass the guard but Salazar is keeping the position.

Salazar has his foot on Alvarez's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Alvarez works his way back into a safe position though.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Salazar is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Alvarez defends well.
Alvarez content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Alvarez keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Salazar's head.
Alvarez lands a couple of elbows.
Salazar wants to sweep but no luck.

Salazar had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Alvarez defends it easily.
Salazar is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Alvarez with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Alvarez got a little sloppy there for a moment and Salazar has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Alvarez has managed to get both his arms back between Salazar's legs - danger averted.
Alvarez has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Alvarez postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Alvarez drops back looking for a leg! Salazar is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Salazar manages to kick Alvarez off! Alvarez jumps back into Salazar's guard.
Alvarez sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Salazar's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Alvarez is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Alvarez looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Salazar is trying to maintain the position but Alvarez is very close to passing his half guard.

Salazar is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Alvarez pulls his head out easily.
Alvarez lands strikes from half guard.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Alvarez lands a nice short elbow.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Salazar is looking to control Alvarez's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Salazar avoid being mounted?
Alvarez works his way into full mount!

Salazar takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Salazar is still in real trouble! Can Alvarez finish him?

Alvarez loads up with a big shot that hurts Salazar! He's pulled Alvarez in close but Alvarez has postured up and lands more strikes. Can Salazar survive? More strikes from Alvarez and Salazar is out! The ref jumps in to save him! Brutal ground and pound!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:26 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Avila Alvarez!
Avila Alvarez bigged himself up after the win. The crowd seemed to love it.
