The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jowars on the wrong end of a nice jab.
Spong instigates a clinch.
Jowars jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Spong walks away with a smile on his face. Jowars gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Jowars takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Jowars really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Jowars rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Spong moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

and Spong counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Jowars thinking.
The fight stays on the outside here - Jowars looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Spong appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Spong sizes up Jowars with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.

Spong has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.

Jowars shoots in for a takedown but Spong shows good takedown defense.
Spong lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Jowars tries to clinch but Spong moves out of range.
Spong wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Spong fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Jowars looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Spong lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.

Spong works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Spong darts in and out, connecting with a jab.

Jowars changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Spong tries to avoid it but Jowars manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Spong to the ground. Spong escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Jowars moves in looking to clinch but Spong pushes him off.
Jowars closes the distance and clinches up with Spong, looking for a takedown. Jowars pushes Spong against the cage but Spong circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Spong breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Spong lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Jowars's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
Jowars misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Spong.
Spong makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Jowars throws a knee to the head but misses.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Spong creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.

Jowars has Spong pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Spong manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Spong pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Jowars takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
