Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Bato Dela Rosa! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
20 - 23 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Luiz Araujo! The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Don Winkell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Araujo misses with a jab, cross combination.
Araujo rushes Dela Rosa and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Dela Rosa blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning. Araujo tries to land knees in the clinch but Dela Rosa avoids the damage to the body. Dela Rosa is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Araujo can't fight it off and eventually Dela Rosa manages to take the fight to the floor. Araujo looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard. Araujo throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Dela Rosa with a flurry of punches that miss. Dela Rosa in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Dela Rosa wants to stand but Araujo has a closed guard, so he can't escape. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Araujo is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Araujo has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Araujo is controlling Dela Rosa's posture.
That's one minute gone in the round. Dela Rosa wants to control from the top but Araujo keeps moving. Araujo is looking for a triangle but Dela Rosa pushes his legs off easily.
Araujo is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Dela Rosa wants to stand but Araujo is controlling his posture from full guard. Dela Rosa's corner is telling him to maintain position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Araujo will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Araujo is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Araujo wants to sweep but no luck. Dela Rosa is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Araujo has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Dela Rosa is looking to defend but Araujo has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Dela Rosa! Araujo pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Dela Rosa taps out and this one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:39 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Luiz Araujo! Luiz Araujo bigged himself up after the win. The crowd seemed to love it.
