PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gokhan Saki (ranked 1578 p4p, 237 weight class) and Simon Gustafsson (ranked 1435 p4p, 215 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Gokhan Saki!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Simon Gustafsson!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Reed Andrews and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gustafsson moves out of range of the strikes.

Saki moves into the clinch successfully.
Saki lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Gustafsson.
Gustafsson tries for a takedown but Saki manages to get underhooks.

Gustafsson has Saki pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Gustafsson pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Saki tumbling to the mat - Gustafsson dives into Saki's guard.

Saki scrambles and gets back to his feet.

Saki lands a left and a right that send Gustafsson crashing to the mat, dazed. Saki thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!


It looks like Simon Gustafsson has been cut.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Gustafsson avoids the body shot from Saki.
Saki misses with a head kick.
Gustafsson shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Saki but Saki pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Saki misses with a double jab

and Gustafsson counters with a takedown into side control.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Gustafsson thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Saki parries the strikes from Gustafsson easily there. Gustafsson is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Saki to escape.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Saki wants to get back to his feet.
Saki might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Gustafsson is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Saki looks calm but he's in trouble here. Gustafsson gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Saki is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Gustafsson lets go of the hold and Saki can pop his arm back in it's socket.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:26 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Simon Gustafsson!
