PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bryan Schaub (ranked 331 p4p, 48 weight class) and Short Badass (ranked 514 p4p, 81 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
14 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Bryan Schaub!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

9 - 2 - 1, fighting out of London, Short Badass!
The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Ren Mimura and Yukihiro Shimada.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Schaub fails in his attempt to clinch.
Badass is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Schaub with a body shot.
Schaub fails with a takedown attempt.
Badass looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Schaub changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Schaub feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Badasss jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

and Schaub takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Badass stuffs the takedown attempt from Schaub. Schaub gets slowly back to his feet.
Badass throws out a counter right but Schaub avoids it with no problem.

Schaub avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Schaub wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.

Horrible takedown attempt by Schaub or perhaps it was just good defense by Badass, which made it look bad.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bryan Schaub. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Badass uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Schaub.
Schaub shoots in but Badass avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Badass gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Schaub.
Schaub rushes Badass and presses him up against the ropes.
Badass throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Schaubs head.

Schaub tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Schaub wants to take the fight to the mat but Badass manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Badass pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Schaub ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Schaub looks to throw the jab but Badass is out of range.

Badass throws out a counter right but Schaub avoids it with no problem.
Schaub throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

and Badass counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Schaub fails with an attempt to clinch.
Schaub jabs Badass right on the nose. Badass blinks but takes it well.

No luck with that takedown attempt from Schaub.

Schaub ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Badass moves away.
Badass might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Badass lands a really nice looking cross but Schaub seems unphased.
Badass steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Schaub.
Schaub closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Schaub lands in his opponent's guard.
Schaub definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Schaub wants to control from the top but Badass keeps moving.
Schaub pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Badass is keeping the position for now.
Schaub drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Badass dives on top into guard.
Schaub keeping moving, preventing Badass from controlling successfully.

Schaub is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Badass defends well.
Schaub is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Badass has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Schaub to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Badass is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Schaub pulls down on the head and he's put Badass to sleep! This one is all over!
