Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, James Cuds! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Tin Kontrec! The judges for this bout are Ben Hemmingworth, John Mangel and Steve Erwin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cuds tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Kontrec manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Kontrec. Cuds looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Kontrec! Kontrec struggling a bit here. Kontrec is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Cuds's leg. He's managed it. Nice work. Kontrec is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Cuds's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Cuds's back! Cuds knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Kontrec on the ground. Cuds is trying to stand back up. Kontrec scores with strikes from the back.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kontrec controls the action. Cuds trying to get back to his feet but Kontrec is in full control for now. Kontrec lands a shot to the head. Cuds is looking to stand back up. He's having to work hard to escape but eventually he manages it. Cuds wants to clinch but Kontrec slips to the side and Kontrec counters with a single leg into guard. Cuds didn't expect that. Cuds manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Cuds connects with a good right hand that stumbles Kontrec. Kontrec circles away out of range and recomposes himself. James Cuds seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Kontrec shoots in for a takedown but Cuds shows good takedown defense.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Cuds tries for a takedown but Kontrec sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Cuds lands with a nice body kick. Cuds lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Kontrec circles away quickly and effectively. Cuds takes the fight into the clinch. Kontrec stalling the fight.
Kontrec pressing his opponent against the cage. Kontrec receives a warning from the referee for stalling. Kontrec prevents Cuds from breaking the clinch. Cuds prevents a takedown attempt there.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kontrec tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Cuds just stands there and leans against the cage. James Cuds has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tin Kontrec. Kontrec is trying to pull guard but Cuds has him pressed against the cage. Cuds scores with a shoulder strike. Kontrec drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Kontrec tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Kontrec looks winded! Cuds prevents a takedown attempt there.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Kontrec blocks a body shot from Cuds. Kontrec breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Cuds is defended easily by Kontrec. Cuds darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Kontrec keeping control of the position. Kontrec is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Cuds pulls his head out easily. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that James Cuds will probably get the nod. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Cuds has closed the distance and engaged Kontrec in a clinch.
Cuds pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Cuds keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Kontrec is trying hard to land a takedown here. Cuds sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Kontrec is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Cuds's half guard. Kontrec is working for a submission of some sort.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Kontrec thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cuds is trying to stand back up but Kontrec is controlling him
Kontrec throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Cuds is trying to stand up here but Kontrec is controlling him well. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. Kontrec steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Cuds. Cuds throws a right hand that Kontrec ducks under and follows up with a left that Kontrec also avoids with ease. Kontrec tries to score a power double leg takedown but Cuds sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Kontrec somewhat. James Cuds has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tin Kontrec. Kontrec is looking to control Cuds's arms but Cuds gets an underhook and turns him. Now Kontrec has his back to the cage. Cuds being controlled against the cage. Kontrec has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Cuds after a bit of a struggle. Kontrec is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Cuds is defending well. Cuds slows down the pace here.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kontrec scores with a shoulder strike. Cuds's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Cuds. Cuds throws a leg kick that misses. Cuds misses with a two punch combination.
Cuds feints a jab promting Kontrec to slip. Cuds then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Kontrec slips again and ducks right into an uppercut. Kontrec pushes Cuds up against the cage in a clinch. Kontrec jumps guard and drags Cuds to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Kontrec controlling Cuds's posture. Kontrec manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Cuds manages to get himself to full guard.
Kontrec trying to control but Cuds is working from the bottom. Kontrec trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Kontrec stands up from guard. Let's bang! Kontrec clinches up against the cage. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Cuds wants to clinch. Cuds with a hook. Kontrec shoots in and drives through. Cuds sprawls well. Cuds appears to be looking for a big counter. Cuds drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Cuds is trying to ground and pound but Kontrec uses the momentary lack of control by Cuds to regain half guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Kontrec actively working from the bottom here. Kontrec is looking to improve his position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kontrec looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Kontrec takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Kontrec is controlling Cuds's position as best he can from this difficult position. Kontrec slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Cuds throws an elbow that misses. Kontrec uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Cuds's guard. Nice move by Kontrec! Kontrec stops Cuds from standing up. Kontrec engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Kontrec trying to control but Cuds is working from the bottom. Kontrec might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Cuds haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. Kontrec throws a big right hand that misses. Cuds pushes Kontrec off and scrambles back to his feet.
Kontrec moves into the clinch successfully.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kontrec misses with an elbow strike.
Kontrec pulls guard. Kontrec looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Tin Kontrec has got the better of the ground game so far. Cuds throws a big elbow that misses. Kontrec is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Cuds has gone for a leg lock! Kontrec slips out almost immediately though and dives into Cuds's guard. Cuds wants to get back to his feet but Kontrec is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Kontrec passes easily into side control. Nice work. Cuds prevents Kontrec from moving into mount. Kontrec wants to control but Cuds is keeping him busy. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Cuds wants to get back to his feet but Kontrec drags him back down.
And that's the end of the fight! Tin Kontrec comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I think Kontrec has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
