Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Ryan Yoder!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 15 - 2, fighting out of Hilo, James Penn!
The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Josh West and Paul Gruel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Penn throws a right and a left that both miss.
Yoder falls off balance throwing a combination

so Penn counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Yoder is looking to stand up but Penn isn't so interested in that idea.

Penn gets to his feet - Yoder follows without any prompting.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Penn, right into the meat.
Yoder misses with a double jab

and Penn counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Penn.

Penn decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Yoder, up you get!
Yoder misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Penn avoids a punch combination nicely.
Penn looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
We've been hearing reports that Yoder has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Yoder takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Yoder throws a left and a right that both miss

and Penn counters by clinching up.

Penn manages to break the clinch.
Yoder falls off balance throwing a combination
and Penn counters with a series of strikes. Yoder will be more careful next time no doubt.
Yoder stalks Penn and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Penn's face. Penn staggers backwards, shaken.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Yoder controls Penn momentarily but Penn frees himself.
Yoder is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Penn stands up from Yoder's guard - Penn perhaps looking for a knockout.

and Penn makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Yoder is breathing heavily.
Penn connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Yoder throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Penn counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Penn gets to his feet - Yoder follows without any prompting.
Penn turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Ryan Yoder is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Yoder misses with a double jab

and Penn counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Yoder wants to stand back up but Penn manages to pass into side control.


Yoder is rocked!

Oh Yoder is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

Penn decides to stand up, so the ref orders Yoder to his feet.
Yoder throws a combination that misses

and Penn counters by clinching up.

Penn's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Penn lands with a thumping leg kick.
Yoder stuffs the takedown attempt from Penn. Penn gets slowly back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Yoder throws a right hand that Penn ducks under and follows up with a left that Penn also avoids with ease.
Penn lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
Yoder displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.
Penn connects with an inside leg kick.
A solid leg kick lands there for Penn.
This has been an exciting period of action!
A nice leg kick lands there from Penn.
Yoder on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Penn. Penn obviously looking to wear him down.

and Penn counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Penn stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Yoder misses with a double jab.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

James Penn dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Some bone on bone action there as Penn checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Penn wants to counter with a clinch but Yoder pushes him away.
Penn misses with an uppercut.
Yoder's legs have taken a beating and he's really slowing down as a result.

and Penn counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
James Penn has got the better of the ground game so far.
Yoder is trying to keep Penn in close.

Penn stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Yoder throws a left and a right that both miss
and Penn counters with an outside leg kick.
Yoder swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Penn counters with a nice double leg into side control. Yoder won't be happy with that.

Penn stands up and beckons Yoder to his feet.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Penn scores with a decent looking hook.


It looks like Ryan Yoder has been cut.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Penn drops Yoder with a straight right hand, right on the button! Penn follows him down to the mat and pounds him out with hammerfists until the referee jumps in to end the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). James Penn!
