PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Brock Lesnar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bernard Overem (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Brock Lesnar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Bernard Overem!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, Chris Edwards and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Overem fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Overem throws a hook to the side of Lesnar's head but Lesnar sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Lesnar shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Overem but Overem pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Overem misses with a takedown

and Lesnar counters by clinching up.

Lesnar tightens his grip and picks Overem up, before dumping him to the ground. Overem manages to land in guard.
Overem looking to control but Lesnar passes into half guard.
Overem trying to hold on to Lesnar's head to control him but Lesnar postures up.
Overem wants to control the action here but instead Lesnar manages to pass to full mount!
Overem is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Lesnar looking to secure an arm triangle but Overem defends it well.

Overem tries to hold on but Lesnar pushes him away.

Lesnar has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Overem's face.
Lesnar avoids the attempt from Overem to control.
Lesnar trying to control but Overem is having none of it.
Overem tries to hold on but Lesnar postures up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Despite being in the dominant position, Bernard Overem just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Lesnar slips a jab and a cross from Overem.
Overem shoots and misses

and Lesnar counters with a takedown into side control.
Brock Lesnar has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bernard Overem.

Overem is not content to let Lesnar control the position.

Overem stalks Lesnar and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Lesnar's face. Lesnar staggers backwards, shaken.

Overem rushes Lesnar and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Lesnar drags the fight down to the ground.
Overem trying to control but Lesnar is working from the bottom.
Overem wants to stand but Lesnar has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Overem gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Overem, as that shot connected.

Overem fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Overem tries to clinch up

and Lesnar moves into the clinch.
Overem scores with a shoulder strike.
Overem can't break the clinch.
Overem swings wildly with an uppercut but Lesnar uses good head movement to avoid it.

Lesnar pulls Overem into guard.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Lesnar holds on and takes a little breather.

Overem thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Lesnar looking to hit a scissor sweep but Overem is one step ahead there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Overem wants to get back to striking at distance but Lesnar won't allow it.

Lesnar's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Lesnar tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Overem had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Lesnar is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Overem Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Lesnar's back instead.

Lesnar just trying to survive but Overem is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.

Lesnar is in a bad position with Overem working for a choke. Lesnar manages to spin nicely into guard and the danger is over for the moment.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Overem is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Overem working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Lesnar doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Lesnar manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

That was a close second round but I would say that Brock Lesnar will probably get the nod.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Lesnar, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
