Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Sherlock Holmes (ranked 5263 p4p, 486 weight class) and Shinya Aoki (ranked 25174 p4p, 587 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Shinya Aoki was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Shinya Aoki!
The judges for this bout are Sandra Marshall, Daniel Franklin and Dirk Anderson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Holmes drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Aoki has his foot on Holmes's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Holmes works his way back into a safe position though.
Holmes trying to control the position from guard on top but Aoki is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Aoki is looking for a triangle but Holmes pushes his legs off easily.
Aoki wants to sweep here but Holmes controlling him for the moment.
Holmes avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Holmes tries to free his leg and advance position but Aoki is retaining full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Aoki has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Temp Spar Gym. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.

Holmes is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Holmes drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Holmes jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Holmes accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Holmes working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Aoki's head.
Aoki is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Holmes defends well.

Holmes postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Aoki is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Holmes, into his guard.
Aoki wants to control from the top but Holmes keeps moving.
Holmes is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Holmes is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Aoki passes Holmes's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Holmes is staying active underneath Aoki, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Holmes has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Aoki is working away from the top position though.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Holmes throws his legs up looking for a submission but Aoki uses it to pass to side control.

Holmes manages to get back to half guard.
Aoki is looking for a kimura but Holmes is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Aoki to get the leverage.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Holmes tries to roll over but Aoki keeps him under control.
Aoki is trying to work for a kimura but Holmes is defending well.
Holmes is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Sherlock Holmes dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Aoki stuffs the takedown.
Aoki tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Holmes shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Holmes showed some decent athleticism there.
Sherlock Holmes overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Aoki regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Holmes.
Holmes trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Holmes throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Aoki works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Holmes wants to pass the guard but Aoki is keeping the position.

Holmes has gone for a leg lock! Aoki slips out almost immediately though and dives into Holmes's guard.
Holmes has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Aoki doesn't defend quickly enough and Holmes has managed to lock this one up! Can Aoki escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Holmes on a fantastic submission victory.
