Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, James May! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, William Dampier! The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Steven Brown and Phil Schofield.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Dampier cracks May with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage. May keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Dampier throws a body punch but May moves out of range. May tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Dampier manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. May instigates a clinch. May has Dampier pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Dampier manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. May is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Dampier pulls him back up using the underhooks. Dampier breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Dampier lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Dampier with a hook. Dampier throws a shot to the body.
May throws a left and a right that both miss
and Dampier counters with a right hand to the body. A cross from Dampier lands.
That's one minute gone in the round. Dampier connects with a good right hand that stumbles May. May circles away out of range and recomposes himself. May closes the distance looking to clinch and Dampier counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body. May on the wrong end of a nice hook. Dampier misses with a wild body shot. As Dampier tries to get set, May tries to push him back and clinch up but Dampier manages to avoid the attempt. Dampier thuds a left hand into May's body. Dampier lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected. Dampier throws an overhand right from the outside, which connects and sends May stumbling backwards into the cage! May bounces back off the cage towards Dampier, who cracks him with a two punch combination that drops him to his knees! Dampier lands two more shots before the referee has chance to intervene - what a finish! Dampier celebrates with his corner as the crowd cheer loudly.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). William Dampier!
