Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Leo Perez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Rodger Beltrad! The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Summer Carpenter and Hugh Johnson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Beltrad clinches up against the cage. Perez really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Beltrad wants a takedown.
Perez stops a takedown attempt from Beltrad.
Beltrad blocks a body shot from Perez. Beltrad looking for a takedown. Leo Perez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rodger Beltrad. Perez fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Beltrad works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard. Perez is wriggling around but Beltrad manages to pass to half guard.
Beltrad thows a huge punch but Perez dodges it nicely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Beltrad content to control rather than advance. Beltrad seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
That's one minute gone in the round. Beltrad content to sit in half guard and control for a moment. Perez is looking to escape. Beltrad passes to full mount! Beltrad controlling the pace for now. It looks like Beltrad might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it. Beltrad dominating with strikes here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Beltrad tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Beltrad is continuing to stall. Beltrad with the ground and pound from mount. Beltrad sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Beltrad landing shots from mount.
Perez is rocked!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Beltrad lands a big shot there that rocks Perez but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Oh Perez is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Beltrad unloads with some vicious shots from mount and Perez wants out - he looks towards the referee who steps in to save him! Beltrad celebrates on the cage and the crowd goes wild!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:27 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Rodger Beltrad!
