Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Tony Winkle! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Petri Soder! The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Patrick Alders and Daniel Blasius.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Soder rushes Winkle and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Soder jumps guard and drags Winkle to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back. Soder can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Winkle controls the pace. Soder keeping moving, preventing Winkle from controlling successfully. Soder wants to sweep but no luck. Winkle looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Winkle has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Winkle with a flurry of punches that miss. Winkle postures up.
Winkle sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Soder's guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Winkle working over Soder with some ground and pound. Soder looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. Winkle is working for a submission of some sort.
Soder won't allow Winkle to pass to mount. Winkle lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Winkle is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Winkle is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Soder sees it coming and defends easily. Winkle trying to control the pace. Winkle seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Soder for as long as he can get away with.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Winkle is looking to take a break and control but Soder is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Winkle has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Soder just holding on. Soder can't escape the position.
Winkle working for a submission here. He's tucked his head under his opponent's arm, looking for an arm triangle. He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Soder looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Winkle! Submission of the night perhaps?
