PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Marcel Dikoume (ranked 3408 p4p, 354 weight class) and Mathias Wendel (ranked 3250 p4p, 338 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Mathias Wendel was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Marcel Dikoume!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mathias Wendel!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Yuuki Gou and Shigeki Fujiwara.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dikoume keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Wendel.
Dikoume drops his hands momentarily and Wendel takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Wendel misses with a combination

and Dikoume counters with a shoot takedown. Wendel fights it but they end up in guard.
Dikoume tries to free his leg and advance position but Wendel is retaining full guard.
Dikoume missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Dikoume drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Dikoume jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Wendel can do anything to dispel that myth.

Dikoume is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Dikoume advances position into side control!

Dikoume is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Wendel is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Dikoume has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Dikoume is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Wendel has escaped the position, nice work there.
Dikoume tries to move into full mount but can't pass Wendel's legs.

Dikoume is trying to get an arm triangle but Wendel is defending well.

Dikoume working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Dikoume creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Wendel sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Dikoume thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Dikoume wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Wendel, who protects the arm well.
Wendel is trying to get back to half guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Dikoume tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Dikoume postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Marcel Dikoume dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Wendel throws a lazy right hand but Dikoume sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Dikoume drops down looking for a counter takedown but Wendel sprawls and moves away.
A jab from Wendel misses.
Wendel shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Dikoume eats them both and turns towards Wendel to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Wendel lands a head shot.
Dikoume blocks a jab.
Dikoume drops down looking for a counter takedown but Wendel sprawls and moves away.
Dikoume has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Wendel throws a looping overhand right but Dikoume ducks down to avoid it.
Wendel throws a jab but it's blocked by Dikoume.
Mathias Wendel seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Dikoume takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Wendel lands a slapping body shot.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Wendel fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Mathias Wendel seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Dikoume gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.

Wendel fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Wendel throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Dikoume tries to counter with a takedown but Wendel is quick to defend against it.
Wendel throws a jab but it's blocked by Dikoume.
Wendel lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Wendel misses with an uppercut. Dikoume saw that one coming.
Dikoume half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Dikoume takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Dikoume staying out of range there.
Wendel cracks Dikoume with an open hand slap.
Wendel tests Dikoume's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Nice straight punches there by Wendel. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Wendel.


Dikoume is rocked!

Dikoume moves away from the strike by Wendel.
Wendel with a body punch. A glancing blow.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Wendel ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Wendel cracks Dikoume with a big right hand that sends him crashing to the floor. Wendel has the opportunity to follow him to the ground but instead he's beckoning Dikoume to stand back up!
Oh Dikoume is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Wendel throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Dikoume stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Wendel fakes the body blow, causing Dikoume to drop his hands! Left hook to the temple! Dikoume goes stiff, and falls face first into the mat. Goodnight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:42 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Mathias Wendel!
Mathias Wendel decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
