Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Max Paddy (ranked 3018 p4p, 328 weight class) and Violencia Rivas (ranked 1229 p4p, 149 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
11 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Max Paddy! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Violencia Rivas! The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Gregory Folan and William Peck.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rivas looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Paddy tries to counter with a takedown but Rivas is quick to defend against it. Paddy pushes Rivas up against the cage in a clinch. Rivas comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush. Paddy has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Rivas after a bit of a struggle. Paddy is looking to take this one to the mat. Rivas breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Paddy tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Rivas defends well and Paddy ends up having to push Rivas into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Max Paddy. That's going to take a lot out of him. Horrible takedown attempt by Paddy or perhaps it was just good defense by Rivas, which made it look bad. Paddy looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight. Rivas throws a hook but Paddy avoids it easily. Paddy feinted with a counter takedown. Rivas clinches. Paddy struggles to land a body shot inside as Rivas controls his hands.
Rivas lands a right hand. Rivas is fighting off a takedown attempt but Paddy is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Rivas to the mat. Rivas regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Paddy stopping the sweep attempt from Rivas. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Rivas can do anything to dispel that myth. Paddy advances position into side control! Rivas taking punishment in the form of punches.
That's one minute gone in the round. Paddy advances nicely into full mount. Paddy looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Rivas bucks up and throws Paddy to the side - he's got back to his feet. Great escape! Rivas with a body punch. A glancing blow. Paddy wants to clinch up but Rivas keeps it at a distance. Paddy cracks Rivas with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business. Rivas drives through and clinches with Paddy against the cage.
Rivas blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning. Rivas breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Rivas throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
This has been an exciting period of action! Rivas misses with a series of wild punches.
Paddy misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Rivas.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The fight moves into the clinch position. Paddy pushes off an throws an elbow but Rivas leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage. Paddy tries for a takedown. No joy.

Paddy tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Rivas avoids it. Paddy is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Rivas to keep the fight standing. Paddy goes for a takedown in the clinch but Rivas prevents it.
Rivas makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut. Rivas works on Paddy's body with a couple of short punches. Paddy tries to pull guard but Rivas won't allow it.
Paddy is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Rivas is defending well. Paddy is trying to drag Rivas to the mat but Rivas just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. Paddy is breathing heavily.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rivas has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Paddy is trying to keep an underhook but Rivas manages to get the takedown into half guard. Rivas wants to pass to mount but Paddy is defending the position. Nice strikes from Rivas there. Paddy trying to hold on to Rivas's head to control him but Rivas postures up.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Rivas postures up and lands a big shot to Paddy's brow. Rivas's corner is telling him to maintain position. Paddy looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Rivas landing some decent shots from guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Rivas makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Paddy looking for a triangle here. Rivas is fighting it but it looks tight! Paddy pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Rivas is tapping out - this one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Max Paddy! A less than humble Max Paddy misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
