PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Rhys Crowder (ranked 2688 p4p, 297 weight class) and Philip Farmery (ranked 1716 p4p, 201 weight class). Farmery has chosen Bad Wolves-Zombie as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Philip Farmery is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rhys Crowder!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Philip Farmery!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Saam Ante and Radbod Blank.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Crowder rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Farmery counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Crowder looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Crowder lunges at Farmery with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Farmery's hand.
Farmery avoids the body shot from Crowder.
Farmery tries a head kick but it misses.

Farmery closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Crowder quickly recovers to half guard.
Farmery thows a huge punch but Crowder dodges it nicely.
Farmery wants to take a breather but Crowder is having none of it.

Farmery is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Crowder defends it well.
Farmery has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Crowder parries the strikes from Farmery easily there. Farmery is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Crowder to escape.
Crowder is trying to buck Farmery off.

Farmery is trying to ground and pound but Crowder uses the momentary lack of control by Farmery to regain half guard.

Farmery looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Farmery throwing shots but Crowder is blocking nicely.
Farmery is pressing down on Crowder's thigh, looking to free his foot. Crowder is holding on for now.
Farmery is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Crowder!
Crowder's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

Farmery goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Crowder is on top in guard.

Farmery has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

It looks like Philip Farmery has been cut.

Despite the aggression on Farmery's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Crowder takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Crowder takes a swing at Farmery's ribcage but misses.
Farmery shoots in for a double leg but Crowder sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Farmery bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Crowder loads up on a big right hand but Farmery slips the punch.

Farmery wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
The fighters circling - Farmery throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Crowder walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.

Farmery avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
A looping hook to the body misses from Crowder. Farmery does a little dance to reset his feet.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Rhys Crowder has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Philip Farmery.
Crowder takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Farmery swings around for an armbar but Crowder sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Farmery's guard.

Farmery is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Farmery accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Farmery is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Crowder is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Crowder has escaped and now he's on top!

Philip Farmery is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Crowder has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Farmery is proving hard to escape from.
Rhys Crowder has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Farmery looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Crowder puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Farmery has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Crowder is working away from the top position though.
Farmery might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Crowder haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Rhys Crowder.
I think Farmery has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
