PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Keith Mays (ranked 25027 p4p, 0 weight class) and Decision Specialist Dani (ranked 25248 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Keith Mays!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Decision Specialist Dani!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Frank Dennis and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dani falls off balance throwing a combination
and Mays counters with a left and a right that stings Dani.
Dani fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Dani looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Mays really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Keith Mays has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Decision Specialist Dani.

Dani has managed to clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Dani.
Dani has Mays pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Mays manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Mays is trying to drag Dani to the mat but Dani just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Mays looking to throw knees to the head but Dani is blocking nicely.

Dani changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Mays fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Dani throws a head kick that misses.

and Mays counters with a series of strikes. Dani will be more careful next time no doubt.
Dani fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Horrible takedown attempt by Mays or perhaps it was just good defense by Dani, which made it look bad.
Dani is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.

Mays tries to keep at a distance but Dani has taken the fight into the clinch.
Dani wants to get back to striking at distance but Mays won't allow it.

Dani has Mays pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Dani pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Mays tumbling to the mat - Dani dives into Mays's guard.

Mays pushes Dani off and scrambles back to his feet.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Dani darts in and clinches Mays up against the cage.

Mays gets underhooks to prevent Dani's takedown attempt.
Dani can't get the takedown.
Dani looks winded!

Dani escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Horrible takedown attempt by Dani or perhaps it was just good defense by Mays, which made it look bad.
Mays fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Mays sets himself, and Dani steps forward looking for the clinch! Mays avoids it this time.

Mays drives through and clinches with Dani against the cage.
Mays lands a nice knee to the body.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Dani wants to get back to striking at distance but Mays won't allow it.

Dani manages to break the clinch.
Dani shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Mays defends it nicely.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Dani enables Mays to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Dani manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Dani is trying to control the position but Mays postures up.

Mays gets to his feet - Dani follows without any prompting.

Dani gets tackled into the cage by Mays. Mays maintains the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Mays's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Dani throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Dani tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Dani shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Mays pinned against the cage. Mays gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Mays throws a quick counter kick to the body but Dani avoids it.

Mays clinches.

Dani tries to pull guard but Mays won't allow it.
Dani tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Mays smiles and moves away.
Keith Mays has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Decision Specialist Dani.
Dani doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Mays counters with a big head kick but Dani shrugs it off.

Dani throws a sloppy head kick
and Mays counters with a body kick that stops Dani in his tracks momentarily.
Decision Specialist Dani seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Dani is breathing heavily.

Mays takes the fight into the clinch.
Dani tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Dani is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Mays can't fight it off and eventually Dani manages to take the fight to the floor. Mays looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Mays has his feet on Dani's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Mays shoots in for a takedown but Dani shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Dani gets caught napping as Mays dives in and scores a takedown. Dani manages to retain guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Mays loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mays gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Mays feints and as Dani raises his hands in defense, Mays changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Dani wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Mays manages to pass to side control.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Dani wants to improve his position but Mays is controlling well.
Mays keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

Mays escapes and gets back to his feet.

Mays forces Dani back against the cage and clinches.
Mays drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Mays wants a takedown but no success here.
Mays lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!
Dani wants to get back to striking at distance but Mays won't allow it.
Dani is trying to force a seperation but Mays has the dominant position.

Mays tries to score a body lock takedown but Dani shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Mays tries for a takedown. No joy.
Mays struggles to land a body shot inside as Dani controls his hands.
Mays throws an elbow but it's blocked.
Mays is pressed up against the cage. Dani has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Mays down to the mat. Mays avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Mays shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Dani counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Mays thinking.
Dani lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Dani fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Mays avoids it really well and circles away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Keith Mays dominated that second round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Dani misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Dani keeps the fight on the outside.
Dani throws a leg kick
and Mays counters with a three punch combo that has Dani backing up. Dani nods at Mays to acknowledge the strikes.
Mays tries to score a power double leg takedown but Dani sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Mays somewhat.

and Mays counters with a left and a right that stings Dani.

Mays gets tackled into the cage by Dani. Dani maintains the clinch.
Mays using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Dani has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Mays is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Mays successfully pulls guard.
Dani wants to control from the top but Mays keeps moving.

Dani stands and steps away. Mays gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Dani connects with a leg kick. Mays looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Mays.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Keith Mays. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Dani has managed to clinch.

Mays closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Dani to the mat! Dani manages to get full guard.

Dani is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Mays is aware though and is defending well.

Dani not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Dani utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Dani is working an open guard so Mays takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Mays keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Mays throws a counter high kick but Dani was just alert enough to avoid it.
Keith Mays is winning the standup battle so far.

Mays shoots in but Dani avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Keith Mays is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Mays shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Dani as he avoids it easily.
Dani shoots in but no luck this time.

Mays fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Dani sprawls well initially but Mays persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Dani is trying to control but can't.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Mays connects with a nice short shot to Dani's temple.
Dani wants to get back to his feet.

And that's the end of the fight!
Keith Mays showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Mays has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
