PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Judas Priest (ranked 4356 p4p, 0 weight class) and Akbar Shah (ranked 7764 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Judas Priest!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Akbar Shah!
The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Patrick Alders and Daniel Blasius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shah stalks Priest and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Priest's face. Priest staggers backwards, shaken.
Priest looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Shah misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Priest throwing a counter right hand but Shah manages to avoid it.

Priest shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Shah sprawls well. Shah wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Priest gets slowly back to his feet.
Priest tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Shah misses with a double jab

and Priest decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Shah's guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Priest stays in close to Shah's body and controls the position.
Shah trying to control the position.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Shah can do anything to dispel that myth.
Priest being controlled here momentarily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Priest accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Priest keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Shah's head.
Shah is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Shah utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Priest trying to control but Shah is working from the bottom.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Priest pushes down on Shah's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Priest is taking a breather. Shah says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Priest looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Shah with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Priest passes to side control.
Priest wants to lay and pray for a moment but Shah keeps working.
Priest is trying to ground and pound but Shah uses the momentary lack of control by Priest to regain half guard.
Shah trying to hold on to Priest's head to control him but Priest postures up.
Priest throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Shah really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Priest. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Priest is working for a submission of some sort.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Priest is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Shah doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Priest.

Priest is trying for a kimura here. Shah looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Priest wins by kimura!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:53 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Judas Priest!
Judas Priest decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
