Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Nestor Fitzgerald! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Just Fight! The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, Columbo Gatti and Franklyn Lucas.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Fitzgerald forces Fight back against the cage and clinches. Fight lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards. Fight ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Fight no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard. Fitzgerald really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Fitzgerald cracks Fight with a solid left hand. Fitzgerald is in close to Fight's body, working some short punches and elbows. Fight throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Fight looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Fitzgerald puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Fitzgerald seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. Fitzgerald looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Fight with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Fight wants to control but Fitzgerald is keeping busy.
Fitzgerald is controlling the pace.
Fitzgerald sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Fight defending well though. Fight gets back to full guard.
Fight will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Fight is trying to keep Fitzgerald in close.
Fitzgerald stops Fight from standing up. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Fitzgerald postures up in Fight's guard and throws a big left but Fight blocks it. Fight lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.
Fitzgerald knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Fight on the ground. Fitzgerald looking for subs off his back but Fight has passed one foot through into half guard.
Fight passes the guard and advances to mount!
That's three minutes gone in the round. The referee warns Fitzgerald that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Fitzgerald is rocked! Fight scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Fitzgerald?
Oh Fitzgerald is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Fitzgerald throws up some feeble strikes from the bottom. Fight smiles and locks on to an arm, pivoting beautifully as he drops to the side for an armbar. Fitzgerald tries momentarily to escape but he knows he's done and taps furiously to avoid injury. Confident submission skills displayed there by Fight.
