Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Piet Smit (ranked 2277 p4p, 318 weight class) and Royce Gracie (ranked 1335 p4p, 208 weight class). Smit kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Baby Got Back. Gracie is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Olha a Explosão. Royce Gracie has the eye of the tiger tonight.

3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Royce Gracie! The judges for this bout are Peter Branson, Michael Johnstone and Bart Greer.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Smit tries to sprawl but Gracie drives through with a takedown into half guard. Gracie wants to control but Smit is keeping him busy. Smit is pressing down on Gracie's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Smit working for a triangle but Gracie defends it easily.
Gracie is stalling in the full guard. Gracie has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Yaw-Yan MMA. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one. Gracie tries to free his leg and advance position but Smit is retaining full guard. Smit not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Gracie got a little sloppy there for a moment and Smit has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Gracie has managed to get both his arms back between Smit's legs - danger averted. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Smit is trying to keep Gracie in close.

That's one minute gone in the round. Gracie passes into half guard. Gracie seems to be working for a kimura but Smit defends the submission attempt. Smit actively working from the bottom here. Smit is staying active underneath Gracie, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Gracie is controlling the pace.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Smit tries to roll over but Gracie keeps him under control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Gracie is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Smit is just riding it out for now. Gracie eventually gives up the hold. Gracie is keen to just control but Smit is a slippery customer. Gracie trying to mount his opponent but Smit defends it. Gracie is looking to take a break and control but Smit is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Gracie is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Smit tries to roll over but Gracie keeps him under control. Gracie is trying to control. Smit wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Smit looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Gracie prevents Smit from improving his position. Smit looking for submissions off his back. The fighters are battling for position here. Smit manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Smit looking to control.
Smit is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Gracie is aware though and is defending well. Smit looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Gracie wants to control from the top but Smit keeps moving. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Smit looking for a triangle here. Gracie is fighting it but it looks tight! Smit pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Gracie is tapping out - this one is all over!
