PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Anthony Birchack (ranked 6781 p4p, 0 weight class) and Yahweh Falwell (ranked 14463 p4p, 0 weight class). Falwell comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Don't Stop Believing kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Yahweh Falwell will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Anthony Birchack!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 104 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Yahweh Falwell!
The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Aafke Stam and Albert Achterberg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Falwell throws a head kick that misses.
Birchack tries to counter with a takedown but Falwell is quick to defend against it.
Falwell looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!

Birchack shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Birchack perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Birchack passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Falwell!

Birchack has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Falwell's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Birchack takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Birchack wants to take Falwell's back but he can't do it this time.
Birchack is dominating on the ground here - he's now on his opponent's back, looking to sink in the hooks. Falwell is in real trouble.

Falwell defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Birchack's arms.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Birchack seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Falwell for as long as he can get away with.

Birchack's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Falwell gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Birchack is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Falwell knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Falwell for a finish.

Birchack shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Falwell manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Birchack controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Birchack might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Birchack is standing up over Falwell. Falwell looks to escape but Birchack dives into side control.
Birchack advances nicely into full mount.
Birchack tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Birchack continues to stall.
Falwell has given up his back - I don’t know if this is a deliberate ploy to try and escape or if he is just struggling down there.

Birchack is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.
Falwell takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Yahweh Falwell has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Falwell is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Birchack gets his way!
Birchack really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Falwell.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Birchack trying to secure his dominant position for a moment - making sure Falwell doesn't escape.

Birchack slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Birchack, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Yahweh Falwell spoke after the fight, saying 'Hasa diga eebowai. I guess I didn't pray hard enough, or maybe prayed too much. I bet if I trained more instead praying, I might have avoided getting KO'd. I guess it's God's will. But to quote George Carlin: "If it's God's will and he's going to do what he wants to anyway, why'.
