Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between David Merino (ranked 5174 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Mackenzie (ranked 5390 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, David Merino! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, John Mackenzie ! The judges for this bout are Santiago Holmes, Michael Johnstone and Winston Alpacca.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mackenzie tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Merino swivels and escapes. Merino appears to be looking for a counter takedown. Mackenzie misses with a straight right. Merino really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Mackenzie closes the distance and clinches. Mackenzie misses with a knee strike.

Mackenzie has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate. Mackenzie tries for a takedown. No joy.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Merino has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Mackenzie is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Mackenzie is trying to pull guard but Merino turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch. David Merino has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Mackenzie . Mackenzie gets a trip takedown into half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Merino won't allow Mackenzie to pass to mount. Merino trying to control but Mackenzie postures up.
Merino slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Merino throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.

Merino trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from! Merino has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Mackenzie is fighting to break Merino's control of his arms but Merino is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. Mackenzie wants to control from the top but Merino keeps moving. Merino looking to control.
Mackenzie really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Merino. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Merino bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Mackenzie 's guard. Merino keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Mackenzie 's head. Merino postures up and lands a big shot to Mackenzie 's brow.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mackenzie avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Mackenzie can do anything to dispel that myth. Mackenzie is trying to control the position but Merino postures up. Merino is in close to Mackenzie 's body, working some short punches and elbows. Merino missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Merino won't allow Mackenzie to sweep him here. Merino throwing strikes from guard but Mackenzie blocks nicely. Merino wants to control from the top but Mackenzie keeps moving. Merino works over Mackenzie with some ground and pound from guard. Mackenzie working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Merino. Merino forces his way into half guard. Merino trying to control the pace.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Merino scoring with strikes to the body and head. Merino looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Mackenzie with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Merino thows a huge punch but Mackenzie dodges it nicely.
Merino wants to take a breather but Mackenzie is having none of it. Mackenzie taking some punishment here, with Merino in his half guard. Mackenzie is looking to escape. Mackenzie wants to control but Merino is keeping busy and won't allow it. Mackenzie has hold of Merino's hands but Merino slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. Mackenzie is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Mackenzie is trying to stand up here but Merino is controlling him well.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Merino working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Mackenzie wants to improve his position but Merino is controlling well.
Mackenzie looks winded! Merino scoring with strikes to the body and head. Merino content to control rather than advance. Mackenzie is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Merino scores with a couple of nice shots. Merino controlling the action here. Merino looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Mackenzie with a short hammerfist. Mackenzie looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Merino displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Mackenzie . David Merino is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Mackenzie shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Merino as he jumps to the side. Merino feinted with a counter takedown. Mackenzie throws a body kick but he was well out of range there. Mackenzie misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. David Merino has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Mackenzie . Mackenzie throws a leg kick that is checked and Merino counters with a nice double leg into side control. Mackenzie won't be happy with that. Mackenzie tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.
That's one minute gone in the round. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Merino with the ground and pound from mount. Merino landing strikes from the mount and Mackenzie is in trouble! Merino putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound! Mackenzie is breathing heavily. Merino with a couple of short strikes. Merino lands a big shot there that rocks Mackenzie but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Mackenzie is rocked! Merino postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Mackenzie looks a forlorn figure.
Mackenzie is still in real trouble! Can Merino finish him? The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Merino pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage. A big strike lands for Merino! That's really hurt Mackenzie and he's turned his back - Merino keeps firing away and the ref dives in to stop the fight! Merino jumps to his feet to celebrate the victory!
