Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Spas Spasov (ranked 22805 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ed Erickson (ranked 6343 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ed Erickson! The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Cecil Peabody and Gwen Towbar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Erickson dives in for a single leg takedown but Spasov sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. It looked like Spasov was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit. Erickson tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Spasov pushes Erickson up against the cage in a clinch. Spasov gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground. Erickson is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Spasov dives into side control.

Erickson with a lazy takedown attempt and Erickson takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Erickson displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Spasov. Erickson unleashes a big counter combination but Spasov bobs and weaves and avoids any damage. Erickson keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Erickson looks to clinch and Spasov counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Erickson is defended easily by Spasov. Spasov throws Erickson to one side and escapes! Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Spasov throws a combination. Erickson tries to block but a couple of punches get through. Erickson looks to clinch and Spasov counters with a nice uppercut. Spasov will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Erickson changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.

Spasov dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Spasov moves into the clinch. Erickson working hard to break the clinch. Spasov breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Erickson goes for a double leg but Spasov avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Spasov continues to drive forward. Spasov drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Erickson wants to get back to his feet but Spasov is dominant here and he's now got Erickson's back!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Spasov keeps control of the position easily here as Erickson tries to buck him off.
Spasov is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Erickson defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined. Erickson is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Spasov struggling to keep hold of the position.

Spasov gets in close and instigates a clinch. Erickson tries to break free but Spasov pushes him back against the cage. Erickson tries to stall but Spasov uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch. Spasov gets control of Erickson's arms and successfully pulls guard. Spasov will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back. Spasov seems keen to control Erickson's posture. Erickson throws an elbow that misses. Spasov uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Erickson's guard. Nice move by Spasov!
Erickson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Spasov. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Spasov decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. Spasov is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Erickson can do to turn this around? Erickson is breathing heavily. Spasov shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Erickson eats them both and turns towards Spasov to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.

Spasov manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Spas Spasov is winning the standup battle so far. A head kick misses from Erickson. Spasov moves into the clinch. Spasov pushes Erickson back against the cage and unloads with a body punch. Spasov goes for a takedown in the clinch but Erickson prevents it.
Spasov pulls guard. Spasov is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Erickson can do anything to dispel that myth.
