Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
28 - 18 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Scott Keene! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
34 - 23 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Nils Holgersson! The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Yves DeLean and Elvis Blanc.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sloppy strikes from Keene. Those never looked like landing. Keene swings widly with a right hand
so Holgersson counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Keene is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Holgersson tries to roll over but Keene keeps him under control. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Holgersson regains full guard. Nicely done. Holgersson is trying to control the position but Keene postures up. Holgersson looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Keene puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Keene stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Holgersson to get to his feet. Holgersson tries to clinch but Keene moves out of range. Holgersson throws a leg kick but Keene sees it coming and moves out of range. Holgersson closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Keene quickly recovers to half guard. Keene avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Holgersson. Holgersson not landing any meaningful shots this time. Holgersson throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Holgersson seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Keene does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Holgersson tries to pass to full mount but Keene defends it. Holgersson is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. Holgersson missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Holgersson is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Keene is just riding it out for now. Holgersson eventually gives up the hold. Holgersson passes the guard and advances to mount! Holgersson lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning. Holgersson controlling from mount. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Holgersson working for a guillotine from mount but Keene is in no mood to give up.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Keene is squirming around, avoiding Holgersson's attempts to control the action. Holgersson landing strikes from the mount and Keene is in trouble! Holgersson with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Keene is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
Holgersson wants to control but Keene has made it back to half guard. Nice work. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Holgersson not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Holgersson has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Holgersson with the ground and pound but Keene uses the opportunity to regain guard. Holgersson trying to control but Keene is working from the bottom. Keene wants to stand up but Holgersson is controlling him. Keene utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Holgersson loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Holgersson trying to control but Keene is working from the bottom. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Holgersson accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Holgersson's corner is telling him to maintain position. Holgersson throws an elbow that misses. Keene uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Holgersson's guard. Nice move by Keene!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Nils Holgersson dominated that round. That's time! Keene's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Holgersson uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Keene.
Holgersson counters with a body kick. Holgersson darts in looking for a takedown but Keene gets double underhooks and turns Holgersson into the cage. Keene misses with a series of wild punches.
Oooooh!!! Keene has knocked Holgersson down with a huge combo! Keene steps away and waves a wobbly Holgersson back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!
It looks like Nils Holgersson has been cut. Keene connects with a left and a right that sees a clearly hurt Holgersson covering up! Keene comes in with a big uppercut and Holgersson goes doooown! He's slumped up against the cage, eyes staring blankly into space.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:28 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Scott Keene! A very excited looking Scott Keene made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
