The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Robert Douchet and Elvis Blanc.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shield uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Rizzo.
Nice takedown defense from Shield. No joy for Rizzo on that attempt.
Shield lands with a nice combination. Rizzo backs away looking to recover.
Rizzo throws a jab when Shield was well out of range.
Shield with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Rizzo misses the jab.
Shield uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Rizzo.
Shield lands a jab followed by a vicious hook that sends Rizzo sprawling to the canvas. Shield follows him down, looking for the kill. Can Rizzo hang on?
Rizzo is rocked!
It looks like Michael Rizzo has been cut.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Rizzo misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Rizzo is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Rizzo throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Rizzo wants to get back to full guard but Shield has passed into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Shield is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!
Shield ducks under a wild hook from Rizzo.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Shield's corner calls for a 1-2. Shield obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Rizzo pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Shield ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Rizzo is breathing heavily.
Shield lands a big uppercut and Rizzo crumbles to the floor! The ref thinks about stopping the fight but Rizzo looks OK. Shield waves Rizzo back to his feet!
Oh Rizzo is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Shield dances in with a quick combination. Rizzo is being worked over with jabs and crosses. Oooh, a right straight from Shield snaps Rizzo's head back. Rizzo stumbles backwards against the cage. Shield steps forward and delivers a right cross that connects with Rizzo's jaw, simultaneously knocking him out and sending his mouthpiece into the crowd! There's a worthy souvenir for the fans. This one is over folks. Rizzo just didn't come prepared.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:20 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Matt Shield!
