PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tel Britton (ranked 164 p4p, 24 weight class) and Ueda Umanouke (ranked 202 p4p, 30 weight class). Umanouke has chosen Kenji Kawai's Making of a Cyborg as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Ueda Umanouke has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 36 - 18 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Tel Britton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 26 - 13 - 0, fighting out of London, Ueda Umanouke!
The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Umanouke tries to move into range but Britton moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.


It looks like Ueda Umanouke has been cut.
Tel Britton seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Umanouke slips a straight right by Britton.
Umanouke uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Britton.
Britton connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Britton throws an off balance right hand
and Umanouke counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Britton lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Umanouke uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Britton.
Britton jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Umanouke gets cracked there but stands up to it.
A big left from Britton misses.
Britton really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Britton gets tackled into the cage by Umanouke. Umanouke maintains the clinch.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Umanouke has hold of one of Britton's legs. Britton is fighting the takedown attempt but Umanouke gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Britton definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Umanouke with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Umanouke wants to control from the top but Britton keeps moving.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Umanouke's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Umanouke has gone for a leg lock! Britton slips out almost immediately though and dives into Umanouke's guard.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Umanouke is on top in guard.

Umanouke is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Umanouke stands and throws Britton's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Umanouke laying and praying for a moment but Britton takes advantage and regains half guard.
Umanouke seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Umanouke throws a strike but Britton avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Umanouke lands a couple of elbows.
Umanouke slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Sloppy strikes there by Umanouke.
Umanouke is looking to take a break and control but Britton is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Umanouke tries to score with some ground and pound. Britton controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Umanouke lands a decent elbow from side control.

Umanouke creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.


Britton is rocked!
Britton tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Oh Britton is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Umanouke creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Britton sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Britton seems to have got his legs back now.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Umanouke wants to lay and pray for a moment but Britton keeps working.

Umanouke tries for a kimura but Britton is defending well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Britton catches Umanouke with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

Umanouke darts in and clinches Britton up against the cage.

Umanouke looking to hit a scissor sweep but Britton is one step ahead there.
Britton cracks Umanouke with a solid left hand.
Britton connects with a couple of short punches.

Umanouke is looking for a triangle but Britton pushes his legs off easily.
Umanouke has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Umanouke bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Britton's guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Britton avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Umanouke in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Umanouke is looking to work some ground and pound but Britton has wrist control.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Umanouke trying to control the position from guard on top but Britton is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Umanouke has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Umanouke maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Britton could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Umanouke has cracked it and Britton is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Umanouke!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:19 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Ueda Umanouke!
A less than humble Ueda Umanouke misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
In defeat, Tel Britton stepped up to the mic, saying '...Next time.'.
