Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Milo Leonard!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Gabriel Mendoza!
The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Paulo Santos and Luis Engracia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mendoza shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Leonard's guard.
Leonard can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Mendoza controls the pace.
Leonard can't keep his opponent in guard - Mendoza advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Leonard knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Mendoza on the ground.
Mendoza is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mendoza gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Leonard fails in his attempt to clinch.

Mendoza shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Mendoza is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Leonard wants to get back to full guard.

Mendoza gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
Leonard really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Mendoza closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Leonard to the mat! Leonard manages to get full guard.
Leonard can't keep his opponent in guard - Mendoza advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Leonard looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Mendoza takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Mendoza takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Mendoza wants to free his trapped foot but Leonard is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Mendoza with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
It looks like Mendoza might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Leonard tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Mendoza has advanced to mount. Uh oh.
Mendoza tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Mendoza lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Leonard hang on?
Mendoza looking to control and managing it successfully.

Mendoza is landing with some decent strikes but Leonard is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Mendoza sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Mendoza lands a big shot there that rocks Leonard but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Mendoza content just to control the position here.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Mendoza tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Mendoza ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Mendoza no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Leonard wanted to stand there but Mendoza had control of the position.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Mendoza holds on and takes a little breather.
Leonard has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Leonard wants to get up but he can't break Mendoza's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Let's hope that Mendoza has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Mendoza scores with a couple of good hammerfists.

Mendoza works his foot free and advances to mount.
Mendoza looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Leonard tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Mendoza has hold of an arm here, looking to extend it. He's committed to the armbar attempt here! Will he get it?! Yes! Leonard is forced to tap!
