Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Frank Fiaz (ranked 3778 p4p, 386 weight class) and John Steiner (ranked 3231 p4p, 347 weight class). Steiner has chosen THE NUMBERS DON'T LIE as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, John Steiner!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Francis DeMontford and Ben Watson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fiaz cracks Steiner with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.


It looks like John Steiner has been cut.

Steiner is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Fiaz sees it coming and defends easily.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Steiner wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Fiaz, who protects the arm well.

Steiner is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Fiaz is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
We've been hearing good reports from Fiaz's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Fiaz engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Fiaz has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Fiaz lands with a straight right. Steiner didn't see that one coming.
Frank Fiaz seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Steiner gets a double leg takedown into Fiaz's guard.

Fiaz had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Steiner defends it easily.
Steiner tries to free his leg and advance position but Fiaz is retaining full guard.

Steiner drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Fiaz manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Steiner has Fiaz in his guard.

Steiner has his foot on Fiaz's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Fiaz works his way back into a safe position though.
Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground!

Steiner is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Fiaz defends well.

Fiaz has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Steiner to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Fiaz is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Steiner pulls down on the head and he's put Fiaz to sleep! This one is all over!

After winning the bout, John Steiner thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
