Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bret Lane (ranked 5503 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jocko Gretton (ranked 5232 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Bret Lane has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Bret Lane seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Bret Lane! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jocko Gretton! The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Lane shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Gretton defends it nicely. Gretton tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away. Lane connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Gretton shoots in and bounces Lane off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Gretton stays in close to Lane's body and controls the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gretton working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Lane's head. Lane throwing strikes off his back to little effect.

That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Gretton slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Gretton's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Gretton controls from within his opponent's guard. Gretton's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
That's three minutes gone in the round.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world. Gretton moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot. Lane walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush. Gretton waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Lane. Lane misses with a looping left. And Gretton tries to counter it with a takedown but Lane pushes his down on his head and steps out. Bret Lane seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Gretton stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Gretton wants it to stay on the feet. Gretton tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away. Gretton throws an overhand right that lands on Lane's shoulder, as Lane tries to avoid the shot. Lane throws a jab but it's blocked by Gretton. Gretton changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt. Lane tries to clinch but Gretton moves out of range. Gretton feints the counter takedown. Gretton scores with the left hand. Lane knows he should have avoided that one. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Lane tries to clinch but Gretton is having none of it. Gretton feints the counter takedown. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lane ducks under a wild hook from Gretton. Lane ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Gretton moves away. The crowd cheers as Gretton lands an impressive looking overhand right. Lane doesn't seem phased though. Lane tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Gretton manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Lane moves out of range as Gretton strikes. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Lane shoots in looking for a takedown. Gretton tries to sprawl out of it but Lane keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Gretton manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Lane looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Gretton is fending him off so far but Lane persists. Nope, Gretton circles away and we're back to standing. Gretton changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt. Lane throws out a token jab with nothing on it. And Gretton tries to counter it with a takedown but Lane pushes his down on his head and steps out. Gretton ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Gretton feints the counter takedown. Lane could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Lane takes a jab right on the kisser.
Gretton is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range. Gretton scores with a crisp jab that stopped Lane in his tracks. Gretton has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight. Lane misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Gretton feints the counter takedown. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bret Lane. That's going to take a lot out of him.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Lane cracks a nice hook into Gretton's ribs. Gretton fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done. Gretton throws a hook to the side of Lane's head but Lane sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Gretton misses with a straight left. A counter left hand to the body from Lane misses its target. Lane slips a jab from Gretton. It looked like Lane wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Lane looks to score with a jab to the body but Gretton is just out of range. Lane lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Gretton at a distance.
Lane throws an overhand right that lands on Gretton's shoulder, as Gretton tries to avoid the shot. Lane is really struggling to find his range with his punches. Gretton's reach advantage is clearly causing him problems. A momentary lapse in concentration from Lane enables Gretton to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Lane manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Gretton sitting in guard here, content to control. Gretton is continuing to stall.
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Lane is on top in guard.
Lane won't allow Gretton to get back to his feet. Lane drops back, looking for a kneebar! Gretton looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Gretton looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Gretton!
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Gretton scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Lane to see if he's OK. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jocko Gretton showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!
Lane throws a sloppy head kick and Gretton moves out of range easily. Lane throws a body punch but Gretton moves out of range. Lane shoots in but Gretton avoids the takedown attempt easily. Lane gets caught flat footed, as Gretton shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Lane doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Gretton is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round. The adventures of Gretton the control monster continue. Boring. Gretton has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Lane manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Gretton manages to get himself to full guard.
Gretton looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Gretton can do anything to dispel that myth. Gretton is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Lane drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Gretton dives on top into guard. Gretton sitting in guard, not really doing much. Lane looking to hit a scissor sweep but Gretton is one step ahead there. Lane trying to strike off his back.
Gretton chips away with some ground and pound. Gretton landing with the ground and pound. Gretton must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gretton sitting in guard, not really doing much. Gretton with a nice head shot there. Gretton looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Gretton manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Lane on his heels. He'll look to pass Lane's guard now, I'm sure.
And that's the end of the fight! Jocko Gretton comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Gretton has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
