Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ron Burgundy (ranked 1049 p4p, 142 weight class) and Desmond Flannery (ranked 3499 p4p, 379 weight class). Flannery is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Dropkick Murphys - I'm Shipping Up To Boston. Ron Burgundy could well score a knockout today. Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
61 - 25 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Ron Burgundy! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
26 - 24 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Desmond Flannery! The judges for this bout are William Peck, Steve Smith and Ian Loll.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Burgundy misses with a kick to the body and Flannery counters with a nice double leg into side control. Burgundy won't be happy with that. Burgundy bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet! A momentary lapse in concentration from Burgundy enables Flannery to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Burgundy manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Burgundy wriggles free and stands up. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Burgundy lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
It looks like Desmond Flannery has been cut. Flannery darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Flannery missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Flannery is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Flannery is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Burgundy defends it well. Burgundy wants to get back to his feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Flannery missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Flannery throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Flannery is keen to just control but Burgundy is a slippery customer. Flannery not landing any meaningful shots this time. Burgundy pushes Flannery off looking to stand but Flannery dives back in and keeps control.

Flannery closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Burgundy's guard. Flannery is working Burgundy over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Burgundy is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Flannery is controlling him. Flannery throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Burgundy has his feet on Flannery's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Flannery tries for a takedown but Burgundy sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Flannery takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Burgundy darts in and out, connecting with a jab. Burgundy misses with a looping right. Burgundy throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Flannery stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly. Flannery shoots in but Burgundy avoids the takedown attempt easily. Burgundy misses the jab. Flannery tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away. Burgundy takes a swing at Flannery's ribcage but misses. Burgundy's corner calls for a 1-2. Burgundy obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range. Ron Burgundy is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Flannery closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Burgundy makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Flannery takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch. Flannery moves away from the strike by Burgundy. Burgundy scores with a crisp jab that stopped Flannery in his tracks. Flannery defending well as Burgundy loads up on a big left hand. Burgundy with a jab. Burgundy defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Flannery. Ron Burgundy has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Desmond Flannery. Burgundy throws a body punch but Flannery moves out of range. Flannery dives in and grabs Burgundy's left leg, looking for a takedown. Burgundy pushes down on Flannery's head and hops out. Flannery looks for a takedown but Burgundy sprawls well. Flannery shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Burgundy as he jumps to the side. Flannery doesn't manage to clinch there - Burgundy circles away.
Flannery drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles. This has been an exciting period of action! Burgundy pulls out of a head kick attempt.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Flannery tries to score a power double leg takedown but Burgundy sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Flannery somewhat. Burgundy misses with a double jab
and Flannery counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Flannery. Burgundy has his feet on Flannery's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work. Flannery shoots in but Burgundy avoids the takedown attempt easily. A combination from Burgundy does no damage. Flannery tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away. Flannery scores with a nice strike. Flannery closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Burgundy explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there! The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end. Burgundy cracks Flannery with a big right hand that sends him crashing to the floor. Burgundy has the opportunity to follow him to the ground but instead he's beckoning Flannery to stand back up! Flannery shoots in for a takedown but Burgundy shows good takedown defense. Flannery shoots in for a double leg but Burgundy sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Ron Burgundy dominated that round. The cut man is working on Desmond Flannery's cut. That's time! Burgundy's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Burgundy feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Flannery sprawling to the canvas! Flannery rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Burgundy finish him?!
Flannery is still looking wobbly from the end of the last round! Burgundy knocks out Flannery with a massive right hand! The ref tackles Burgundy before he can follow up with any more strikes and that's it everyone. Burgundy picks up the big W with a huge KO!
