PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Xafan Kong (ranked 670 p4p, 103 weight class) and Andy Bangsit (ranked 2001 p4p, 288 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Kong might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Demon's Theme. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Xafan Kong!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 17 - 2, fighting out of London, Andy Bangsit!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Phil Schofield and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Good leg kick by Kong there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Kong throws a quick inside leg kick.
Kong seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.
Kong ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Bangsit moves away.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Bangsit has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

Kong gets caught napping as Bangsit dives in and scores a takedown. Kong manages to retain guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Kong is on top in guard.


Bangsit looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Kong has picked Bangsit up and slammed him! Bangsit can't keep hold of the triangle and Kong manages to pass to side control!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kong looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kong is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Bangsit is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The fighters are battling for position here. Bangsit manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Bangsit wants to sweep here but Kong controlling him for the moment.

Kong avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Kong engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Kong has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Bangsit looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Bangsit wants to sweep but no luck.

Bangsit working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Kong doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Kong manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Bangsit looking to hit a scissor sweep but Kong is one step ahead there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Bangsit shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Kong defends it nicely.

Bangsit decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kong keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Kong is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Bangsit drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Kong manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Bangsit has Kong in his guard.

Kong tries to free his leg and advance position but Bangsit is retaining full guard.

Bangsit escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Kong gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Kong slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Bangsit wants to sweep but no luck.

Bangsit is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Kong defends well.

Bangsit had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Kong defends it easily.

Kong has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Kong is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Bangsit can do to turn this around?

Xafan Kong overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Bangsit is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Bangsit is trying desperately to improve position.

Kong fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Bangsit manages to avoid it.
A clash of legs there as Bangsit blocks the low kick.
Bangsit misses with a takedown attempt
and Bangsit takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Kong tries to score with a low kick but Bangsit moves his leg out of the way.
Kong goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Bangsit.

Bangsit shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Kong as he avoids it easily.
It looked like Kong was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Xafan Kong has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Andy Bangsit.

Kong finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Bangsit shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Kong counters with a nice uppercut.
Bangsit shoots in and drives through. Kong sprawls well.
Kong lands a jab to Bangsit's midsection.
Bangsit needs to keep his hands up - Kong had a free shot at his head there.

Bangsit is still on wobbly legs! Can Kong finish him?

Kong weaves into range and cracks Bangsit right on the temple with a beautiful overhand right! Bangsit goes down! He's out cold! Wow, what a beautiful knockout! Kong is strutting round the canvas like a movie star as the camera bulbs flash frantically.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:09 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Xafan Kong!
Xafan Kong seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
